Alot of people are having the same problem with the hp printers i have looked at many printers with this problem and the most i have solved with reinstalling the printer to the computer you can do this by going to tcontroll panel > printers > right click and delete printer
then reinstall the printer using the disk or by clicking add new printer
im sorry but this is all the information i can provide on this problem
just chek in my computer is that show any scanner last on screen if it is then scan thru that tool if there is no scanner icon avalable then i need to set drvier thru device manager... it's help u

Download the correct driver for your operating system.
Uninstall (delete) the printer and start over. Make sure you disconnect the usb cable before you install the software. Don't plug it in until the software prompts you to.
four problems for sure.check out 1 by 1.
1)either the power outlet itself is faulty.
2)either the power cord wire is faulty.
3)either the adapter in which the power cord is fitted is faulty.
4)and last but the costly 1 the jack of the printer in which the power wire is inserted is faulty internally.

You will need to go to the HP support site, http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html Find your specific printer, and download the driver for Vista. Should not be a problem after that.
