I just bought a boat with a Raymarine C80 chart plotter. It is running the 4.25 software version andcan read a Navionics gold chart from 2007 from the original owner. For my area I have a navionics gold chart from 2005 that stops at the sign on screen, and, although I can see chart details behind the sign on window, the plotter will not go to the next screen and will not function at all. The store demonstarted that the card runs on a new Raymarine plotter. I tried to update the plotter SW to the latest ver. 5.04, following Raymarine's instructions. I used a Kingston 4 GB CF card, but with the card containing the fresh downloads insered, the plotter remains dark. Is it the Kingston CF card or the 4 GB capacity the problem, or, what else could it be? I tried several factory resets also prior to the update attempts.

    The first advice is no help at all. I have already studied all the literature, and consulted the Raymarine web pages, and followed all instructions to the letter. The advice I am looking for will only come from someone who actually knows this plotter and likely related to my two questions in the original enquiry.

    I will follow through with a smaller CF card in the next fwe days. However, the other Navionics gold card that also froze the C80 is actually 128 MB, so I have some reservations about the solution with the smaller card until I try. Mabe after the SW update the 128 MB Navionics card will work.

    I borrowed an old CF card from the store, and updating the SW to 5.04 went first time, no issues. However, the 2005 gold CF is no go. The card must be damaged. The store also had problems with it in one of their plotters. I will buy a new gold CF in the near future.

Hi,

Your problem is the 4GB card. The Raymarine C-Series have a problem with their compatability tool and larger CF cards. You should use a card no bigger than 256mb.

The card probably worked in the store because the newer models accept larger cards.

Get an older card from ebay etc and copy your 4gb files onto it and try again.     Yep, let me know how it works once you have a different card. There is a fair chance that the older 2005 gold chart won't be compatible until the C80 SW has been updated.

These types of problems are model specific the best way to find out what is wrong, is to check the paperwork that came with the plotter. Towards the back of the instruction manual they will have a phone number to call for assistance. It sounds like the plotter may be defective. And may need exchanged.

Can't update software

Hi
As you have isssues with boyh software update and chart I would put my bet on the cartridge reader, it could be a loos or broken pin. Use a penlight or good light and inspect the pins in the reader for damages and check that there is no pin stuck in the Navionics cartridge. If no pin is missing it may just be loose, can be fixed by opening the plotter inspect the reader from behind and use a glue gun to resecure the pin(s). In worst case you will have to replcae the reader (affordable).

I have a Raymarine C80 shart plotter / sounder with a DSM 300. I can't get the "status" light to come on and therefore I can't do a DSM reset. The fuse on the power input to the DSM was blown so I changed...

I would think it's prity much certain that the DSM 300 is duff. I returned mine back to Raymarine for test and repair £200 + VAT They came back unable to repair as they have no parts for the DSM 300 . They undertake to be able to repair units for up to 10 years and I think that's why they offered me a DSM 30 that will work with my analog display in my case a C70 MFDU and the existing transducer. OR an upgrade to a CP370 digital sonar unit, this will work on your existing tranducer but you will have to upgrade your display to a digital unit, I went for the upgrade and purchased an "a"series 9" MFDU with a chart, fantastic performance. This has left me with a spare analog MFDU that will hopefully keep my radar running a little longer before I have to go down that road and upgrade.

My boat is pointed in the wrong direction on my Raymarine C80 chartplotter?

I'm not sure where you would locate "reset to factory specifications". Look for it in the GPS menus (may be in the System) and reset, it is no big deal to reset a GPS, it will not hurt anything. I the GPS is set to back Track. To check this turn your boat around and follow the track on the lake chart. If you and your boat are now going in the same direction the GPS was set on Back Track.

My Raymarine C80 CHart plotter won't load.

Check to see if this is a power issue by connecting to shore power and fully charging your batteries overnight with instruments off. While still connected to shore power, with batteries fully charged, turn on C80 navigation system. If the loading screen comes on and does not reset, then try holding down the button immediately to the right of the red power button for at least 3 seconds to see if the system re-boots.

The reason is because the housingin is a little bit broken or throw the keypad water came inside yuor Display and after this the oxidation ha destroyed a part of the printid circuit or the switch of the keypad

C120 displays NO DATA SOURCE in the radar section of the screen. ohns resistance test checked out. what else can it be?

1. you must have the latest software 4.29 the new scanner dont work with the old Software.
2. Be shure that you have really put in the connector of the cable inside the plotter its not so easy.

try the plotter on an nother boat with an working system than you will know if its a problem with the antena or Plotter
