I have a 42in emerson flatscreen, which the imag e tends to shut off randomly. The power and sound stay functional, however the image on the screen goes out. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

Yes the backlight inverter need to replace. Go to google and type the number on the boards. They are very simple to replace. Make sure the TV is off.

Try removing the LVDS cable that goes to the Tcon board and see if the set stays on, you won't have picture but does the sound stay on...if it does then replace the Tcon board, the only one you haven't replaced it sounds like

VIZIO 42in LCD HDTV - Dark colors and flickering

It sounds that the back-light CCFL lamp is faulty. It is time to replace it. When replacing, do it to all CCFLs, because, the life time to these lams are expiring now, as the set is nearly 4 years old. Image goes to black on Sharp flatscreen.

An LCD unit? Sounds like the backlight is failing. When it goes black next time, use a strong light next to the screen and look for a faint image on the screen....

If it is the backlight, its a service shop issue.
