When you turn on your computer, press F8 and that will give you some start up options, the first ones being Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt and Safe Mode with Network.

Hi,
Please restart your computer and keep tapping the F8 key till the time you get the startup options for your system.
You will see option like 1. Safe mode 2. Safe mode with networking etc.
Select Safe mode and your computer will boot into safe mode. If you want to exit from safe mode and want to login on the normal mode then you will just have to restart your system.
Hope it Helps
Thanks and Regards
Anand Sachan

SOURCE: start up

try starting the computer normally, this usually happens if you computers power was cut while booting up, its just a small harmless glitch.  As for the returning back to the prompt try running it with command prompt. when you get to the command prompt, type (chkdsk) and let it run this might also fix any other problems that you are not seeing.

I let the HP asst. Install a bios update and the install is stuck at 40%. What can I do to get out of the update?

Turn on the computer and begin hitting the "F8" key when you see the BIOS screen.

This will take you to the Safe Mode menu.

Use the arrow keys to highlight "Safe Mode," then hit "Enter" on your keyboard.

This will boot your computer in Safe Mode, a minimalist manner of operating Windows that runs only essential Windows files.

If using Windows XP in Safe Mode, click the "Start" button and then click "Run." In the box that pops up, type "msconfig" and hit "Enter."

If using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click the Windows logo in the bottom left corner of the screen, type "msconfig" in the search field and then hit "Enter."

This will open the System Configuration Utility.

In the System Configuration Utility box, click the "Services" tab, check the box that reads, "Hide All Microsoft Services," click "Disable All" and then click "Apply."

In the System Configuration Utility box, click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and then click "Apply." Next, click the "Close" box.

A box will pop up that prompts you to restart your computer.

Select "Restart" and let the computer restart itself, allowing it to boot to Windows normally.

If the computer still stalls when trying to boot to Windows, restart the computer and boot to Safe Mode again.

Run your antivirus program in Safe Mode, deleting any files that are flagged as viruses, spyware or malware. Restart the computer and boot to Windows normally

hope this helps

Computer very slow ,won't print, forever to load pages, have corrupted files

Several things can slow down the computer: overheating, spyware, not enough RAM etc. If you know for sure you have corrupted files were they corrupted by a virus? You may need to reinstall Vista.

Is it slow when you boot up in safe mode? To boot into safe mode hit (usually) F8 while it is booting up. Let it completely boot into safe mode and then reboot again. Now is if it is behaving better.

To get rid of spyware download the free Spybot Search & Destroy from the net, run the update and then run it to dectect and get rid of the spyware. Spyware tries to send info which can slow down everything.

Overheating - does it feel hot? Is the fan running and pushing air?

If it worked fine before it is unlikely you don't have enough RAM. Windows itself needs at least 256mbs to run well without running other problems.

Again if you know files are corrupted, if they are windows files, you might need to reinstall vista.

Taito legends 2 vista

Try reinstalling it while in Safe Mode. First uninstall Taito Legends 2 from your computer using the uninstall program that comes with the game. Once that's done, restart the computer and start it in Safe Mode. You can do this by pressing F8 as soon as the computer restarts and then choosing the Safe Mode option from the start up list. Once in windows starts in Safe Mode you can then reinstall Taito Legends 2 . Once it is completely installed restart the computer in normal mode and the game should now run. I hope this works for you.

Os will not load, screen stays black but mouse pointer is visable

Hi nico,I'm assumming you are running vista since this seems to be a fairly common problem.  The problem is that a driver is not loading correctly.  You should be able to restart your computer and boot into safe mode.  Once in safe mode, delete and/or uninstall any files or programs/drivers you downloaded before the problem began.  Some users have blamed Roxio and MagicDisk as programs that have caused this error.  Then restart your computer back in normal mode.If you can not boot into safe mode, then unfortunately you need to begin looking at system repair options like reinstalling windows vista.
Hope this helps, and please don't forget to vote/rate!
