Detailed scanning instructions are available in the Software User#s Guide for your machine. The guide can be accessed through the ControlCenter or from the installation CD that came with the Brother machine.
To access the Software User#s Guide from the ControlCenter (Windows):
1. Click WINDOWS/START -> (ALL) PROGRAMS -> BROTHER -> XXX-XXXX (WhereXXX-XXXX is the model number of the machine) -> ControlCenter3. The ControlCenter3 application will be loaded in the Task Tray near the system clock. (It appears as a blue square labeled CC3.)
2. Double-click on the ControlCenter3 icon located in the Task Tray to launch the program window.
3. Click DEVICE SETTINGS
4. Click USER#S GUIDE. A separate window will appear displaying the available user guides.

I can't figure out how to scan something. The Wand turns on, but it won't start scanning. I even tried the white balance calibration?

Hi Karen,

Do you have a micro scan disk inserted? The scanner will not work without one. Insert the disk in the slot next to the Format button. Turn the unit on then press the format button to format the disk. To scan a document, you press the scan buttton once, then release the button. Slowly move the wand over the document to be scanned. When you have finished scanning, press the scan button once again.

Hope this helps,

Marcus

Im trying to scan a document and cannot figure out how

To scan a document, you need to make sure you have the Full Featured driver installed. Then open Solution Center (the full install drops a shortcut on your desktop) and follow the instructions to scan.
If you can scan the document as an image, a quick workaround is contained in the following videos. Since I don't know what operating system you're using, I'll put in a Win 7 and Win Vista example.

I am an HP employee. I do not represent HP on this site.

How do I use the scan option on the C6280 to scan a document on my desktop. I can print to the printer but cannot figure out how to set it up to scan

First, make sure all of the drivers for your printer were downloaded from the CD that came with your printer and make sure your printer is connected to your computer and turned on..

Second, if you are using a Windows PC, Click on:
Start > All programs > Accessories > Paint

Third: When the Paint program opens, in the top toolbar click on, File > From Scanner or Camera > then select your printer by clicking on your printer's icon > then click, OK.

Fourth: Place the document you wish to scan on the glass of the scanner and click on: Scan.

The document will be scanned and automatically sent to the Paint program.

Fifth: Click, File > Save as > (name the document) and save it in your Pictures folder.

You can now close the Paint program and open your Pictures folder. Click on the document you scanned to view it.

To scan documents, you must choose the PDF scan. Need to figure out how to choose to scan as a PDF. That's in the software or scan buttons. In that setting, there should be a choice of single or multiple scans. After the scans, you choose finish and the program should show you a PDF document and then save to a folder of your choice.

How to scan with mac

    1. Connect a compatible scanner to your computer. A list of compatible scanners is available in technical document 107203 "Mac OS X 10.2: Scanners Compatible With Image Capture "

    2. Install any necessary software drivers that came with the scanner.

Note: Not all scanners require the installation of additional software drivers.

    3. Turn on the scanner.

    4. Press the scan button on the scanner. See the documentation that came with the scanner for specific instructions. Image Capture opens automatically and a preview scan appears.

    5. Select the area of the image you want to scan.

How do I scan and e-mail pdf documents from the MP730?

Scanners scan a document in picture format(JPEG) dot per dot. Their are complete programs out ther that will scan a document and turn it into a text fine. They are far more expensive that just copy a picture of some words on a page, Typical scanner function. I hope I have explained it well.

Scanning a combination of one-sided and two-sided documents

Use the "Separate Scan" button on the panel. By pushing this you are telling the scanner that you have separate scans to scan as one document. Once all files are scanned, push the separate scan button again to indicate you are finished scanning.
