Try removing the battery and charging it. Then put the battery back on the camera. This will reset the cassette system. The cassette should open or close depending upon what status it is in. Once you get the camera to eject fully, clean your heads with a dry head cleaner cassette for Hi8 video. If your camera is still eating tape, could be a broken pin or damaged heads.
Mine does that once in a while, I turn it off, remove the battery, put the battery back in, plug the AC adapter in and turn it back on and sometimes it works. Now if I can get it to load a tape without eating it.
Believe it or not, after having the same problem "re-insert cassette" and "reattach power source", and after talking to Sony and them telling me it would be $111.00 to repair, I hit mine with the palm of my hand twice on each side and twice on the back by the battery and it actually worked--haha Go Figure!!
Turn the unit off and hit the back of the camera twice near the battery compartment with the palm of your hand. Sounds crazy but it worked with my camcorder Sony DCR-TRV480. Problem started when I used 8MM Head Cleaner. I think the roller got stuck inside camcorder. The trouble code came up C:31:22. Hope this helps.
its not condensation, perhaps on the tape, but not in the camcorder. i have the same damn problem and its really pissing me off. im a truck driver and when i see something i want the thing to work!! anyways, ive tried to take the tape out and wind the actual tape in the tape tighter by spinning the ummm, things haha. if you take out the tape thats not working and put in a new tape it works. also, theres no condensation in my big rig, its hotter then a barn in here and i have a nice leather case for my cam corder. so this problem is a pure design flaw and im pissed. peace out.
exactly problem
i have a 280 also and it does the same thing!!
I also have the same issue, how do I fix this?
evvery time i put in a tape in it asks to re insert the tape
