Either on the remote control or in the tv menu somewhere will be something labeled "cctv". you might have to cycle through the few different kinds of cctv to turn it off.

Turn your TV ON, then turn your cable box OFF. Press the Menu button on the front of your cable box. A system menu will pop up and you should be able to find an option to turn CC off/on.

I have a DYNEX 42"

Do you have a cable or satellite box connected to the TV? If so the box is probably what is providing the Closed Caption and not the TV.

How to turn closed caption off?

If the cc button on your Sharp remote control isn't turning them off then the captions may be coming from your cable box. The hidden menu to access closed captioning on the cable box is usually found by turning it off and then (yes I did say turn the cable box off) then press the menu button on the front of it immediately after turning it off. Then you navigate down to captions and disable them. When you turn the cable box back on the captions should no longer be there.

The closed caption will not turn off

If you are using a HD cable or Satellite box then the CC options need to be set to off in those respective receivers. If a Motorola HD cable box turn the box off then press the "MENU" button on the remote control and you will see a setup screen where you can turn the closed captioning on and off. Please take a moment to rate my answer.. Thanks...

Closed captioning code for an Armstrong Cable UEI controller

I cannot imagine the original person still has this issue but if you turn off the cable box, assuming it is an HD PVR, you then hit the menu key and you can go into a whole bunch of options including cc

I can not get closed captioning on my vizio VO42L HDTV. The strange thing is, before I received the HD signal from Comcast I could get closed captioning. Any help would be appreciated.Bobbi

If you are using a HD cable box then this would be setup in the cable box itself.

Example:
With a Motorola Cable box, you would turn it off and press the menu button (with the receiver off and TV on). This will bring up a menu that will allow you to adjust your digital closed caption settings.

If you do not have a Motorola cable box that I would refer to the manual or call the cable company.

Had this happen on a Comcast box (Motorola DCT 6416 III)
Here's how to fix it:
Turn the cable box off, leave fully connected. Press Menu on the remote
The cable box internal menu will display (Not the Comcast one the Motorola one-- i.e. Display ratios-16:9 etc It's in black and white)
Use the arrows to cursor to the Closed Captioning and toggle to "Disabled" Press Manu again to exit and Voila!

Power the box on an have at it

Closed caption problem

I had the same issue... here's what I did.  If power off your cable box, then press the menu button, there's a selection to enable or disable Closed Captioning.  This works for both HD series Motorola boxes Comcast offers, at least in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  Hope this helps!

Closed captions will not disappear

Some TV will not display close caption in HD mode. This is why its Grey out in HD mode. If you switch to regular input, i can bet you your close caption will not be Grey out. The problem you are having is your cable box has close caption enable. You must go into the cable box menu and turn caption off. In some box you may have to call your cable provide for assistant.

Closed Captioning on HD channels

We had the exact same problem just yesterday when we bought our Sony 46" Bravia LCD. Nobody, neither Comcast Cable or Sony seemed to really know how to get rid of the closed caption at first and we did have a Motorola box - the box is the problem, not the tv. Here is step-by-step instructions that worked for us. 1. While TV is on, power DCT (Digital Cable Terminal) off 2. Press and hold "menu" button on digital terminal (the screen below will appear) 3. Using Up/Down cursors, highlight "Close Caption" 4. Using Left/Right cursors, put - Close Caption: Disabled 5. Press "ok-select" 6. When done, press "power" to exit menu 7. Press "power" again to turn DCT on If you go through these steps slowly, you should have a caption-free screen!
