My atari 2600 4 switch was working yesterday but today somethings wrong.... i'm guessing it's the RF unit 'cause it still powers on. any other suggestions

Well it might be the rf switch so you should buy a new rf box for it then. If its plugged into a digital tv it won't work unless you plug it into a vcr or a dvd player.

Tried connecting direct to both an LCD and older set using the coaxial lead straight from the console.Cannot get anything at all.Do I need an rf modulator or no.

Quite the opposite - The Atari 2600 sends a modulated RF signal over the cable, it needs to go to the ANTENNA port of the TV, and you need an adapter. On eBay, look for
ATARI 2600 RF TV SHIELDED CABLE + ADAPTER
http://www.atariage.com/howto/connect.html is a really good guide.

Bought an atari 2600 and an adaptor for my tv still no picture. also it turned my tv to blk and white. where should i start?

If you are using a digital tv you need the lastest up dated rf switch for atari2600
and plug it into a VCR or A DVD player and it will work that way but if its on a CRT tv style just use the rf switch then no special set ups on CRT style tvs.

ARTARI 2600 HOOK-UP INFO?

yeah its the right thing. Hook the RF Modulator to the cable connector on the back of your TV. (the one with the threads) and hook the cable from your Atari (its a AV cable) to the RF Modulator. set the little swithch on your Atari to chanel 3 or 4, then set your TV the the same channel and enjoy your Retro Gaming goodness (I Love My Atari 2600)

Atari 2600 fuzzy screen

Hello, Are you using a newer flat panel or and older TV? IF you are using a newer TV the picture will never look very good. IF not, did you try working with the RF adapter? Check all connections. If all else fails try to get another RF adapter to see if that helps. I remember this being a bit problematic even when these were new. Wish I had a definite answer for you! Good Luck - Dr. Know
