Your drive is most likely formatted as FAT32. Unfortunately FAT32 has a limit of 4GB for single files. If you are using this with a Windows PC you will need to reformat the drive into NTFS. On Mac format is as HFS.
Note that when you format you will loose all your files on the drive so back them up first.
