It is possible that there is a fault, or that the battery connections in the camera are dirty or corroded, but digital cameras are famously demanding on batteries. You must use good alkaline batteries or better, a set of high capacity NiMH recharegables. Zinc or "long life" batteries just aren't up to the task.

New rechargeable batteries are supplied only partially charged. You need to charge them fully before use.

How long does it take for a vivitar Vivicam 5118 to charge fully?

Since the ViviCam 5118 isn't a battery charger, it will take a very, very long time.
The 5118 uses standard AA batteries. If you want to use rechargeable batteries then you much charge them outside the camera using a separate battery charger. Connecting it to a computer through the USB port will drain the batteries even faster, since the camera has to expend power communicating with the camera (even if only to say it has nothing to say).

Vivitar ViviCam 5118 turns on but won't work

Try returning it back to Walmart, the camera maybe covered by warranty, otherwise it won't be worth fixing as it may cost more than $20.

I have a Vivitar Vivicam 5050 black and I use 2 AAA batteries in it ,but it only lets me take a few pictures and the camera turns of wanting new batteries. Can you help?

Please try and see if you are able to get high rating cells with higher mAh specified on the battery. Check for rating that are more than the one's that is used presently or use a different type/composition of the battery like Li-Ion.

The Vivitar Vivicam 5050 is notorious for eating up battery life. But first off, try to check for any corrosion inside the battery compartment. If there is none, I would suggest that you use alkalines or better yet, rechargeable batteries to make it more cost effective.

How do I put photo's onto the computer from my Vivicam 5050

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Charging question

I have the same camera. I don't think you can charge the battery without the dock, unless you find a separate charger for the Lithium battery it comes with. It's a Lenmar 3.7V/700mAh type battery. I looket it up on radioshack. I lost my charger RCA jack power chord. I am trying to find a new one. If you have any luck, post an answer.
