I also have a DCP-115C with blurry print when using black ink but not when using coloured ink. Somehow the the text on the test print document comes out ok in black, and the alignment test looks correct too. When I print from Microsoft Word, (or notepad), it comes out blurry. I have screen shots to show what's happening but not sure how to add them here. Help please, this is frustrating!

OH, Forgot to mention there is a calibration feature in the printers console. Try running it a number of times as it seems to have a cumulative effect. But if this fails, just turn off bi-directional printing.

Could you scan one of your prints and upload it somewhere so I could get a better idea of exactly whats going on?
Out of interest I picked up my DCP-115C from a local Hamfest as a chuck out for $2.50! When I first set it up it wouldn't print at all, would randomly say ink cartridges were empty (often changing it's mind) and when I did get it printing the print was discusting.
Another thing you can try is with a small seringe and needle squirt some metho down the tubes that go up into the ink cartridge. I did this with mine to help flush the heads through.
My $2.50 printer now works like a new one again. ! :)
I just ordered a set of 4x ink cartridges for it from EBay for $9 including delivery!. Talk about cheap! :) .-.-.

Thanks guys!!! i finally out my printer needs to reset the counter or what they called. my printer is now in error mode lcd display is "unable to print".

open ssc service utility,than set a black headclean from ssc service.and than you go printing preferances on printer properties now you set head aligment 2 times.i think this is helpful for u.
Remove ink catridges and clean print head, shake inks and reinstall the inks, if problem persist, Uninstall the driver and reinstall. thats should help. Some time if the print head are dirty it prints multi color. You have to make sure the Head is Clean and install th inks properly.
Two things, either you need a new printhead, QY6-0064-000 around $40.00, or you will need a new purge assembly, if you do a cleaning without the black cartridge, and the ink on the little pad inside the printhead goes away, then you just need a printhead.
Is it the ink cartridge contacts you already cleaned? If so, then you can also clean it using the tools menu from the printer panel:
-press setup menu, then go to tools
-select clean print cartridge and press ok
-it will print a test page. If the printout is good, you can try printing again.
epson uses pigmented ink and compatibles use dyes and thus if the paper is not of good quality then you can have this problem.
do the following
change the paper and try.
As there will be ink in the head and the ink feed tubes , print some 10 -15 copies of all color prints so that the original ink starts to get into the head and then the paper.
this should solve your problem
Also use your printer every 2 -3 days if you dont have any prints then give a noozle check and then switch off the printer. This will avoid the printer from doing a head clean very time you switch on the printer and also the ink will give you more output as there is less amount of head cleaning
Unplug machinepowercord. Open printer and take all carts out. Plug in power. Machine demands carts. Put new one in: Replace with original ink carts!. When asked push 1 (yes New cart).
If you have used thirdparty carts, there could be a prob due to construticon or ink quality.
In case there is no bk after 3x cleaning cycles anymore, the head is clogged: This happens because the filter in front of the nozzels is clogged by pigmented ink.
