I can't find the serial number on my Husqvarna 455 rancher chain saw so i can register it. I have looked all over the outside of the saw but have seen nothing that says serial number.

not sure if the 455 rancher is the exact same as my rancher but when the oil feed on my saw seems slow i remove the chain and bar and clean the chain grove. pay special attention to the end that is near the motor there are a couple of places that allow the oil to flow from the saw body to the chain groove and then subsequently to the chain
you should be able to release it with a flat screwdriver. you should see something that looks like a wheel where the chain brake locks to the brake handle when you put the cover back on. you should be able to twist that wheel and unlock it that way.
Go to http://www.milacalawn.com/parts.asp and look for the bolt that hold the brake.usually the bolt is located in the chain plate that has a large groove in order to adjust the chain.

A Husqvarva IPL for a 455 Rancher 2005-01, follows (may not be your saw): http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/usa/2005/I05000/I0501036.pdf See print "A" (clutch cover) pn 537 28 64-01 & pn 503 21 70-10, if missing or loose these may cause your problem. If not an inspection of the parts beneath may disclose the defect.
If the bar is what can be moved pn 537 28 65-01 or 537 28 66-01 may be stripped. After I determined what parts need replacement, I would contact a local Husky Dealer. They may have these parts on hand and if not ordering through them should save you shipping and handling fees.

It sounds like the chain is too tight. Loosen up the tension on the chain by turning the tensioning screw located on the end of the saw where the bar goes out.

See Detail A, pn 503 89 08-02. You can use a Crescent Wrench on one of the ears (left end) to reset it. With the cover positioned with pn 503 89 08-02 in the upper left rotate it CW until it nests, to reset it.

It depends on the chain you have installed on the chainsaw. You can look at the numbers stamped on the drive link side of the cutting chain and it should have a 2 digit number that correlates to the size.
The factory chain supplied with the #455 rancher was a .325" pitch 3/8" chain.
