It is not a problem with the printers. It is a problem with the supplies!
Do not waste your time with refilled toner. Almost all vendors of printers include logic in their printers to deter such products.
Just for your reference, it called "Product Tampering" to use non authorized consumables or components.

Flora,
Sorry for the delay. It's a nice concept that you are trying to save the planet by using refilled toner cartridges, unfortunately its a bogus or phony concept.
Actually you will be adding to the landfill problem because of the decreased life of the printer.
Toner that was not made by the original manufacturer of the printer can and usually does cause other printer failures. One of the biggest failures is print quality.
As to why companies don't want other companies toner in their printers its all about business and profits as well as product operation.
If you have a Dell printer, for example only, and you have toner that was made by someone else, how do you know that it is the correct chemical mix for the printer's needs.
Also as a fact, most companies will not honor the warranty on a printer once the refilled toner has been used in a printer. Because if they do, then they are on the hook to fix the damages caused by this unknown toner.
Most large printer companies are very green conscious now and have recycle plans already. The difference is that when ta used cartridge is received back at the factory (Lexmark in particular, because I worked there) they are completley stripped down and rebuilt to factory new standards and then placed back into the pipeline.
