Sony Bravia XBR-2 32-inch LCD with popping noise problem

2 nights ago when I was turning my TV off for the night I suddenly hear a consistent popping noise coming from the TV (it happened when I turned the cable box off and was about to turn the TV off). The popping noise is constant and happens regardless of what channel is on. However, when I mute the TV the popping noise stops which led me to believe it was a problem with the TV's sound system. The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV. Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds? And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers? There is no problem with the picture. Well I don't have a specific cable box. My Westinghouse flatscreen TV just started popping; I've had the TV since February, and it hasn't started until now. It doesn't matter for me what's playting. If I'm playing atape or DVD, it still makes the nouse when I turn it off. It does NOT pop, however, unless the TV has been on for a few minutes. If I turn the TV on after it cools off, and then turn it off again quickly, it will not pop. It's only when it's been on awhile and it's hot. Should the top of the set be as hot as it is?

I have the exact same problem with my Bravia 52". I turned the cable box off and still had the problem. At first it only popped on the hd channels but it does it with the box off now too. It is true that if you go to the other outputs of the tv like the hdmi or video 2 it stops. Maybe try unplugging the cable box completely to see if it stops. I have a Comcast hd box.

I have a 32 in. Sanyo LCD TV. The popping noise only lasted for a few minutes before but now does it all the time. I do not have an answer for anyone at this time.

I have a 40" Sony Bravia and it has begun to make popping sounds when the Comcast cable is the input. It does not pop when the Blueray is the input. I unplugged and replugged all the cables last night and the problem stopped for the rest of the evening. This morning it's back. I have a physical cable that has five wires and I notice that it tends to loosen connections because it isn't supple enough.

Unfortunately, we have the same problem. We hear popping and our sound goes lower. It is not the cable box for us, it's definitely the TV; however, it happens, on our set, after its been on for a few minutes and then goes away after half an hour or so -- however, this evening its been happening for the past hour and the TV has been on for the evening.

Power Outage Problems Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV

try cycling the power (unplug 2 minutes) and plug in and wait 30 seconds and turn back on. if this doesn't work, could have been a surge, your protector should have saved it, but could have been through cable or something. surge protectors will guarantee no damage for several years, check with the manufacturer maybe they'll cover the repair.

Sony Bravia KVL-V40A10 - pixelated lines top and bottom of screen

Are these lines visible regardless of what device (DVD player, cable box) you are watching?  If so, then yes, it appears the LCD panel is failing.  If you only see the lines watching one device, it could be the cable/wire or the device itself.  Now it can also be the related input jacks too so connect the device to another input to be sure.
