Laptop will not boot, Sony Vaio VGN CR220E, The computer turns on, but neither the monitor, nor the hard drive kick on. I think it may be a hardware problem. I've tried connecting another monitor to no avail. It seems like my hard drive has failed, but i have no way to tell, nor do i know how to fix it. My caps lock, num lock and scroll lock leds blink and go out, it doesn't beep, just clunks and stays in what appears to be sleep mode with no noise from the hard drive

I need you to try a few things.First remove the battery, memory no power whatsoever.Press and hold the power button for twenty seconds.Replace the memory then the ac cord and try again.Remove the power only this time and press and hold the power button again. Now replace the battery and the power adapter.Power up and you should work if not you will need to replace the motherboard.

I have a Sony VGN-CR220E. It would turn on but all I see is a black screen. The green light on the bottom lights up but all the rest won't light up anymore especially the 3rd light that would blink,...

One thing to try is if you can, connect an external monitor to the computer. Turn it off and then back on with the external monitor on. If video on the external monitor then the problem is with the laptop monitor most likely the FL inverter or the lcd itself. If no external video, it is most likely a motherboard problem.

Laptop will not boot, Sony Vaio VGN CR220E, lights come on, don't hear the Hard drive start up, however. I get the clunks from the CD drive, but that's all.

Hi,
Such problems happen when you have either faulty RAM or faulty Mother Board. Repairing MotherBoard Chip is a costly affair but replacing RAM is convenient and most probable solution.

Computer displays black screen with blinking cursor

Its seems its not booting correctly. Just Insert Windows CD and fix the windows. Another solution is to press (I think) F1 or F11 or F12 (depending on the model) when booting the machine. It will take you to recovery mode. Use it to restore the boot section ONLY.

you need a Serial ATA hard drive, and you may have a limit to how big of a hard drive you can go to.
Go to your local computer supply store and tell them what you need,,and they will sell you a compatible unit.
As to what type of drives to buy,,,,there are many types of drives,,and many opinions,,get the highest spin rate is all i would suggest.
