Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

How to remove moisture from between a Projection TV Screen.

You tried to clean your projection TV screen with windex and sprayed it onto the screen. Later you notice that there is liquid between the screens. How do you get it out?

First your screen is composed of three pieces. It may not look like it but there are three pieces of plastic making up the screen. If any liquid gets between them you will have an anoying problem.

You will have to remove the speaker grille to get to the screws that hold the screen on. Pulling gently on the side of the grille you should be able to get the grille to pop off. Move your fingers around the grille to continue removing it. Do not force the screen but pull on it steady.

Once off you should see the screws holding the screen on at the bottom of the screen. Remove all screws. If you have magic focus you will need to remove the back first so that you can disconnect the wires to the sensors. Removing the back is simple and only requires the removal of the screws around the perimeter of the back assembly.

Once this is done grab the screen on both sides and lift it straight up. You may have to tug to break it loose. Once off the screen can be removed from the frame by removing all the screws around the perimeter.

You should be able to separate the screens (there are three) with a razor knife and dry them. I would leave the screens apart for a few days after wiping the liquid off just to make sure there is no moisture left.

Reassemble the screen as it was prior to disassembly and use duct tape or black tape around the edge to hold it together. Place it back in the bezel and reassemble the unit. It should be good and have no moisture problems.

I did something wrong.....

Windex is not the best cleaner. Bed and Bath Beyond has a very good NON-Streak class cleaner that I tell my customers to use. The best solution is NOT to Spray directly onto the TV Screen. Remember the glass is only delivering the picture from an RGB projection unit sitting inside the enclosure. It is not the electronic projector and the screen is separate. It can be replaced if damaged; however I believe it is only streaked and needs proper cleansing. If you get the new cleaner, spray the solution onto a soft cloth and wipe the exterior screen. Promptly wipe it dry and if you need to do this a few times, eventually you will get the glass clear and enjoy the show.

how do i clean outside hitachi prejection tv screen.

Using a lint free cloth, such as a diaper, and windex (no ammonia), spray the cloth to dampen it and using a swirling motion wipe the screen. Finish with a dry lint free cloth. Never use paper towels, and never spray the screen as the liquid can migrate between the different sections of the screen. Let me know if you need more help.

liquid under screen on mitsudishi dlp tv

With a conventional projection type screen on CRT type televisions this is not a problem, but with the newer DLP type screens the fiber of the Fresnal screen acts like a spounge and soaks up any liquid introduced. If you try to clean it it will smear and make it worse. You can remove the screen assy an clean it with Windex but allow it to dry properly.I do not see a problem with cleaning this screen, but make sure you put the screens back the way they were.I must also note that it is no easy task removing this particular screen assy.Good luck
