At mid to high volumes when the needle is on the record and u touch or tap the deck u can hear the tap or touch coming through the speakers, have tried several different cartridges to no avail have also changed rca and earth cables to no avail, any one got any ideas wot would cause this, and only at high volumes am getting a rumbling noise
Try attatching the ground cables to the ground screws on the back of your mixer. That will solve the problem and eliminate any hum you may get at the moment. I did that with my 1210 Mk2's with my Numark Mixer and it worked.
Since you've already replaced your RCA cables, and tried different cartridges, the only other thing that would cause this type of issue is your tonearm. It's probably on it's way out, and will need to be replaced shortly.
You can obtain a replacement tonearm HERE, however, it's rather difficult to replace the tonearm without experience or knowledge on soldering.

Just like anything else, the tonearm does wear out over time. There are only 3 components which can cause this...
1) Your cartridge/stylus
2) RCA Cables
3) Tonearm
Since you already tried 1 and 2, the only thing that is left is #3
If all 3 have been replaced / checked and you still have the same issue, then the problem is:
1) Your cartridge/stylus
2) RCA Cables
3) Tonearm
That's right, that means that there is something wrong with one of these 3 things - Nothing else on these turntables causes sound issues.

Yes, but the problem is that you are not getting the full range of the signal coming from record itself (Full Left, and Full Right) So, along the path, from Stylus, to Cartridge, to Tonearm, to RCA cables, then into your mixer/receiver there is a faulty connection thus not allowing the FULL signal to go through. Eventually, you wont get anything.
If you want to try and understand how signal flows from the record to the turntable, this is not the place for that, and I don't have the time to explain the science behind the turntable and signal flow. However, there are plenty of articles online that will educate you on the subject. If you want to know how to fix it, I've given you the answer.
Have you tried swapping or replacing your cartridges - if you have 2 turntables, just switch the cartridges. If the problem persists on the same turntable, than the issue is with the turntable itself and can only be either the tonearm or the RCA cables, or both. If the problem follows the cartridge, then you know the issue is with either your stylus or cartridge.

what can go wrong with a tone arm that would cause this? what do you mean by on its way out. sorry taken so long to reply have been moving house
why would the problem only be evident at mid to high volume, surely if it was the tone arm you would notice the problem at any volume?
