Trying to connect a new Samsung Bd-C5500 to my old Sony tv. Can't even get the set-up screen to come up on the TV. All we have is a TV, a Cable box and this new Samsung. We bought it because it is Netflix ready. Can you tell me what the proper connections I need?

That depends on the connections your Sony TV has. If it has only the coaxial connector (the cable looks like this: http://www.w-l-t.org/Pix/Coax%20w-F%20connector.jpg), then you'll connect a VCR to that, and then the blu-ray player to the connections on the VCR using the composite cables (yellow, red, white). Switch the VCR to channel "L" or "Line" (usually below channel 2), and it should pass the video through to the television. Of course, if the TV itself has the yellow, white, and red connectors, you should just be able to connect the Blu-ray directly into that.
Also, it may be possible to connect your cable box as an intermediary like I just described with the VCR, depending on your model of cable box.

Hello,

Please indicate the brand and model of your receiver, BD player and your speakers. Basically, you just need to connect the cable box and blue ray player to the receiver. The 5.1 speakers should be connected to the blue ray player, then another set of cables from your BD player to your TV. When you want to use the speakers while watching TV, you need to turn on the blue ray player too.

How to hook up direct tv box, samsung hd tv,pioneer vsx-820 receiver, samsung blue ray bd-c5500

If you're using HDMI cables, which I suggest you do, this is how you set it up.
From the TV, you'll connect an HDMI cable to your receiver.
Connect the blu-ray player to your receiver.
There's a small amount of setup required with the receiver, but it's self explanatory.

Hi,
Most cable wire ends(usually heavier white colored wires)are made in such as way as that the center conductor is made of copper. It is the part that inserts into the middle of the jack on the back of the Cable Box and additionally goes from the back of the cable box into the TV set. That center prong being made out of copper(which is a very soft metall) is easily bent. if this happened to the cable when it was first inserted into the back of the Sony, could cause a general sort circuit.
What you can do if this has happened.
Remove the connector from the old TV and then, with a flashlight, see if the copper prong is still bent. If it is, straighten it out with a pair of tweezers, or some other appropriate tool so that it is completely straight.
Then connect it again to the Sony Set.
You may want to check some other connections going to and from your cable box, etc
If the Sony then doesn't work, and you are certain there are no short circuits, Than the problem should be covered under Sony's warranty.
Here is the link to the manual for your set

I hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

HDMI and the red, white, & yellow cables are two different sources. Try using the remote to switch playback source from HDMI to the other choice not sure what Samsung calls the red, white and yellow connectors. I can tell you that the red cable is audio right, the white cable audio left and the yellow is the video.

Yes Im sure that should solve most of your problem. If you just recently purchased the set it should still be in warranty. Please take full advantage of your warranty and dont't let anybody work on your set but a tech that has been certified by Sony to work on their in warranty products.

After reading your post a couple of times, it just seems your are in a little of a pickle here. The only thing I can suggest, since your tv will work with fios and not the your BD player(I assuming your using the same port on the tv with the same hdmi cable), is all about firmware. Maybe your tv is not compatible with the the BD player. Try updating the firmware on the tv.
