Rechargeable batteries don't last forever. This one may have simply stopped working.
However, it is worthwhile checking that the contacts on both battery and charger are clean. Dirt or corrosion can prevent the battery from charging.
There is also the possibility that the charger has failed. You can buy a new battery and try charging it. If it charges, then the charger is good and the old battery was the problem. If it doesn't, then you must get a replacement charger, and you will have a spare battery, which is no bad thing.
