Laptop dropped, now blackish-blue solid screen display, intermittent horizontal lines but dissolve when different areas of screen guard are pressed. i have hooked up an external monitor and windows boots fine. is this an inverter problem or does the actual screen need replaced? also, before i caused this problem- on start up the display would be red where black should be, but would self adjust and go back to normal after app. 30 minutes or so. is this consistent w/ a CCFL malfunction? toshiba P205-S6267

SOURCE: bios password

Remove the case, find the BIOS reset jumper and short it for a few seconds, or remove the bios battery for 5 s, put it back and that's it !

Your system is consuming much power.

Go to Control Panel, Power Options.

Click "Advanced Power Settings" for your current power plan.

Under the section "What happens when I close the lid", choose "Do nothing" for both "Battery" and "Plugged-in".

Click "Apply" and "Ok".

Now, close the lid of your laptop and open it, it would restore but next time don't overload your system power.

This is common with Dell and Toshiba.

Screen has gone grey and has fine horizontal lines on entire screen. Blue screen is out.

Either the screen voltage to picture tube is more than normal, or the video processor IC has damaged. There is an other possibility that there is no voltage at the video output card, plugged on to the neck of the picture tube. Anyway, your set need a through checkup, and the work is somewhat skilled one. Just check this site. Soemtimes you might get some details about this fault. The fault is called vertical retrace lines. Thin horizontal lines all across the screen with an inch apart. One among the posts published in the following site have details about this fault.
Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in "Timeslide" or "Flipcard" option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. It will make search easy. There are more than 1250 posts to different brand TVs now. Pull up older posts there.

Further assistance needed

I just replied you and here once again...

Please pull front speaker grill and find focus block, fixed at corner having 6 control knobs on it.
Find Blue Screen control knob there.
Put your TV in AV mode to get dark screen and just press Display button on remote to have AV display.
Now slightly rotate control knobs counter clock wise until thin lines (retrace) disappear. Job is done and put back speaker grill, press display button again to disappear screen display.

Monitor problem

Hi,

Appreciate the "Ask Me".

I am assuming that you have more than just familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, the use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Further, that you have access to a service manual.

Width problem is basically insufficient horizontal deflection, then analysis would have to be in the horizontal section. Areas to initially focus on:
  1. 12V line and pin 29 of IC401;
  2. 110 V peak to peak at collector of Q403, if yes check Q 402 & 404 as well as T401;
  3. other components that affect the horizontal size are:
  • IC201
  • Q 405, 406, 407 & 408;
  • D409
  • L401
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

40 inch lcd blue line vertical

The display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.
Hope ya fix it!
