RIM BlackBerry? Tour 9630 Smartphone Logo
Anonymous Posted on Oct 26, 2010

I was downloading an update to my color id app and my Blackberry Tour was rebooting when my screen froze when the app was asking permission to access phone info. Now my screen is frozen and I can't get it to go away even with a hard reset.

I had the same problem and went searching online for a solution. You need to start your blackberry on safe mode and uninstall the application.

To boot up your BlackBerry Tour in Safe Mode, perform the following steps:
1. Take the battery out of the device.
2. Place the battery back in the device.
3. While restarting, press and hold the Escape key (the one with the arrow).
4. A screen will appear telling you that you are in Safe Mode. Select OK and troubleshoot the issue.

There are different versions of how long you have to hold the Escape key while the phone is restarting, so I just held it through the whole boot up time. It took a few minutes, but it's worth it.

BlackBerry Tour: How to change app permissions

Every app that you install on your BlackBerry Tour has a set of permissions that tell it what functions or information it can or can't access. For personal, business, or security reasons, you may at some point want to modify your apps' permissions. Below is the procedure for changing app permissions on a BlackBerry Tour.

From the main screen, press the BlackBerry button (to the left of the trackball) to bring up the Home folder. Scroll down to Options (the wrench icon) and select it. From the Options menu, select Applications.

On the Applications screen, you can view three different categories of apps: Third Party, Add-ons, and Core apps. Select the type of app that you want to modify, and all of the apps of that type will appear in a list.

From the list, scroll down to the app that you're looking for and highlight it, then click the BlackBerry button. Select Edit Permissions, and you'll see a list of all of the permission categories for that app and what they are currently set to. You can modify any of the individual permissions however you want; for example, you could allow USB connections for a specific app while denying Bluetooth connections.

Be aware when modifying app permissions that certain apps will require certain permissions to function. For example, a GPS program probably won't be able to function if you deny it the permission for Location Data. Some core apps -- like BlackBerry Messenger -- won't even allow you to edit their permissions.

Your BlackBerry has a default permissions configuration that it applies to new apps, and you can modify this default permission list as well. To change default permissions, click the BlackBerry button from inside an app's permissions and choose Edit Defaults, or click the BlackBerry button when in the prior Applications screen and select Edit Default Permissions.

How to adjust contrast settings on a BlackBerry Tour

Whether you are colorblind, curious, or just into weird color schemes, you can change the contrast on your BlackBerry Tour from the normal colors it displays to either grayscale or inverted colors. Here's how:

1. From the main screen, press the BlackBerry button (the one with seven dots) to get to your Home folder.

2. Scroll down until you see the Options folder (the one with the wrench icon) and click on it.

3. Select Advanced Options from the list.

4. Select Accessibility.

5. Go down to the second option, Color Contrast, and use either the ALT key or the space bar to select a new contrast setting. As you select one, the screen will change immediately, so you can preview each one before making a change.

6. When you've settled on a scheme you like, save the change before exiting; press either the BlackBerry button or the Back button and then choose Save.

The contrast setting you choose will affect just about everything you see on your BlackBerry, including Internet content, pre-loaded games, and even third-party applications. When using the Tour's camera or video camera functions, everything will be displayed in normal color, but any pictures taken will immediately appear altered, depending on your contrast setting. Videos are an exception to this rule; if you watch a video on your Tour with either of the alternate contrast settings, the video will still appear in normal color. (Though if you pause the video, the image it pauses on will adhere to your current contrast setting.)

The key pad wont work wen i type any thing on the screen everything is frozen i have tried removing the battery i cant access anything when i type but it still wont work my key pad i permanently lock for...

Try to insert any password in your phone 10 times to erase all your data and make your blackberry Tour 9630 unlocked. If your keypad still won't work after blackberry unlocking process, try to reflash your blackberry phone. Once again if still have same result, it should be a hardware problem in your phone and you need to repair that on nearest local mobile phone repair shop.

When i turn on my blackberry i get an app 523 reset error im trying to connect my phone to my pc to update software but wont connect cuz of the error

Here are the steps:
  1. Reboot in "safe mode". Hold down the "escape" key for a minute or two
  2. Even though you've seen the "Error 523 white screen of death", a sigh of relief will overcome you as you see the Tour boot in safe mode
  3. Unplug the internet from your computer for the entire process. This was key for me as I couldn't find a way to have the Tour connect with the desktop manager (DM)
  4. Plug in your Tour and connect with the DM
  5. Once connected go to the DM's "Main Menu"
  6. Go to "Application Loader"
  7. Go to "Add/Remove Applications" and click "Start"
  8. After syncing, your DM will show you a list of apps from your last sync-up
  9. Remove any apps you recently installed or updated. While you're there, you may as well do some Spring Cleaning by removing latent apps that have fallen into disuse
  10. (I can't remember if I was asked to choose an OS during this process, but if you are prompted, pick the safest choice...the lowest version available. However, I haven't tried to install the latest version, either, so it's your call).
  11. Voila!!! All of your apps should be synced up as if nothing ever happened!

Hope this helps.

Facebook first froze on my blackberry and then will not let me login. will not let me change my password. I have friends that can send me messages that I can't open.

First, download and install the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager software from: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/contactFormPreload.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22&dl=DA5FB46338C8C0DCB1039F7898184FC5

Once installed, connect your BlackBerry to your computer via the USB sync cable. Open Desktop Manager, and click the Application Loader. On the right, you will see Update your device software. Click the Start Button, and if your BlackBerry is not on the latest Handheld Software, an update will appear. Select the update, and run the install. Be sure to select the option that backs up and restores your data. Once started, do not shut down your computer, or disconnect the USB sync cable as this could damage the device.

Once completed, your BlackBerry will restart and you will have the latest version available. This version has been known to correct various issues.

If the issue is still present, then it could be hardware related, and may need to be repaired or replaced. I would then suggest contacting your Provider for Hardware Support.
