Your power supply board is dead, do you know basic electronics' and soldering? Sony sets have several protective circuits that blank the screen if something happens that might damage the picture tube. One of the more common causes is trouble in the vertical output circuit. Given the age of your TV (the XBR models have been around a while), this might also be a symptom of a picture tube starting to fail. Most of these sets have circuitry (called AKB) that adjusts the color drive signals to the picture tube to keep them balanced. If one of the colors is enough out of range the screen will blank. It might be the tube itself, or failure of some part in that AKB circuit. The set might also have defective parts in the input switching or video processing stages.

Unfortunately, I can't suggest any place you might look if you want to try repairing this on your own. This kind of trouble usually needs to be diagnosed and repaired by a professional TV technician who has the service information to track it down.

Try turning off power and let set cool completely. Then turn back on. Letting it cool complety re-arms the autmatic degaussing circuit. It may take several cycles to completly clear it up.

This could be a scan amplifier failure, and there is a loss of high voltage to the CRT. Part of the power supply may have also failed. In these sets, if the CRT emission goes low in emission, or the CRT goes defective, the bias supply to the CRT will go in to protect.

An experienced TV service tech can troubleshoot the set and give you an estimate for service. Considering the age of the set, the cost of service may not be worth it.

The CRT is going weak. The electron-gun emission is borderline for the AKG circuits to allow the bias circuits to bias the CRT to be operational. This is type of operation is part of the safety protection for the high volage regulation control.

The Reason For The Soft Picture:
As the CRT emission decreases with wear, the beam focus current will no longer be able to form the electron beam to be sharp pointed on to the mask on the face of the CRT.

I would suggest to start shopping for a new set.

posible solution is adjust the screen to low.also check the trimer if it is working.check the resistor in the heater line...weng

The set is definately in the SAP mode, which will have some channels in spanish and some channels with no sound at all. You might be able to get an inexpenxive universal remote and go through the menu to return the audio setting to stereo, but if that does not work then you can order an original Sony remote by model number from Union Electronics at 800-648-6657.
