Red tinted double image above the normal image.

I have a Panasonic PTV Model PT-51HX40. Suddenly I'm seeing a red shaded double image curved above the normal image; this is especially noticable for any printed items in the picture. Can you tell me what the issue is with my TV, and what it might take and cost to fix the problem?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Mike G.

I have a Panasonic PT-56WX51E that started showing double images with a green & red tint, above the original image. I have attempted to connect straight to the box, using DVD & VCR to see if the...

This is really a very simple thing to diagnose---go into the customer menu and select convergence--if red or blue is skewed there and will not adjust in some direction--you have a convergence circuit problem.

These sets use two convergence IC chips--if convergence will not adjust you need to replace both chips along with any of the resistors around them that protect the set and are bad.

Parts are cheap for this ----less than 30 dollars for everything you will need.

Based on the Pt56wx51e model number this set uses two of the STK-392-110 chips--they are black and side by side on metal heat sinks with fins and will have the full STK number printed on them in white letters.

Most shops get 300 or more for this kind of repair. If you or someone you know can do it you can save a lot of money.

The repair really only involves two things: getting at the chips and parts and being able to unsolder and replace them.

I HAVE START TO FINISH STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR ON THIS MODEL. They will tell you everything you need to do the repair and how to do it--I have fixed hundreds of these sets with convergence problems.

If you think you can do it let me know and I will post the full instructions here for you.

Once the problem is fixed the set will not have the same trouble for 5-8 years--lifespan of the parts.

If this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Have red tint on the screen gives off a double image.

The PT53WX53 Convergence repair kit available at www.tvrepairworld.com should repair that issue. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions
