All Ethernet connections use a standard RJ45 connector. If your cable doesn't fit, you should check the manual to verify that you are using the right port. https://www.sfcable.com/network-ethernet-cables.html

You might be trying to plug the ethernet cable into the modem. This is smaller than the ethernet connectionbut looks the same. If there is no ethernet connection on the computer you might need to have a NIC card install.

I got a NETGEAR router and I have been trying to get my Motorola SURFboard to recognize it. I had the USB connection installed and the NETGEAR uses ethernet, so I tried to install the ethernet but my...

The Cable modem must be disconnected from the computer. You cannot use USB and Ethernet at the same time.

1. Turn off power to the Cable Modem and the Netgear Router. Do the same with the computer.
2. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port.
3. Connect another ethernet cable from one of the remaining 4 LAN ports on the router to the computer's ethernet port.

4. Now power on the Cable Modem ONLY. Wait for the modem to sync up with your service provider
5. After about 2-5 minutes power up the router and wait about 1-2 minutes.
6. Now power on your PC.

Check and see if you have internet access. If not you may have to uninstall any cable modem software related to USB connection. if this is the case, then you may have to repeat steps 4-6.

Since most cable internet providers do not use proprietary connection settings, your internet connection should be up and running without changing any settings in the router or modem.

If this does not resolve your issues, we can continue to work with you.

Please clarify what you mean by ''Connect with an ethernet cable''

Ethernet cable means CAT5 or UTP for others or LAN cable. The connection should be LAN port of your computer to LAN1 of your router.

And you can connect also the internet cable usually ethernet cable from your internet provider directly to (ethernet cable)WAN port of your router to get signal from your internet provider.

Also if you get this message, this could also means you still don't set up or configure the router's settings to communicate when your LAN and router. They must see each other to access the router's utility webpage.

Ethernet card

hi there. The ethernet card is an interface that allows your computer to be connected to a LAN (Local area network) and to a Cable/Dsl modem to be on the internet. The connector looks bigger than the one of a regular telephone jack (it's actually double). If you don't have the ethernet card you can't go on the internet or on a LAN.
From the back of the modem or router you should connect a cable to your ethernet card of yor computer. Only after you did that you can try to connect to the internet.
Let me know, or be more specific.
thanks

My ethernet cable does not fit into my PC.

Hi
Ethernet cables must be placed the right way round. Make sure that you are using the ethernet socket - it looks like this.

If it is an older computer you may not have an ethernet port. It is possible to install one - you will need to buy the necessary hardware.

It could also be that your ethernet cable is broken, or that you have the wrong cable. You can buy a new one from amazon.

Hope this helps
