We just had a flood in our basement and our Whirlpool Duet Sport HE front load washer is displaying F28 which I know means something electrical. Is there any way I can disengage the electronics to get the door to unlock? I have clothes in the machine and stopped the cycle when the water started filling our basement. I want to get the clothes out before they get moldy.

As far as I know F28 error code means - SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS ERROR/MOTOR CONTROL UNIT ERROR. Caused by either a communications problem between the Central Control Unit and Motor Control Unit, or Motor Control Unit internal failure.

There is also a safety switch on the bottom compartment, if the cover is off it will display F28.

The error code F28 means one or both of these parts are bad.
Motor Control Unit (8540135)
Microcomputer Machine Control Unit (8540788)
It would be a good idea to order both, as both components have been problematic for error code F28

If you find either the MCU or the CCU(Microcomputer Machine Control Unit) fixed it.

you will have to call a tech f28 is a control board failure, or if you are lucky and you have the anti flood hose, to your machine..i would remove them and put standard hose on the unit

serial communication error between central control and motor control.
Check connections at ccu (top front right corner) and mcu (bottom by motor), check belt drive for wear.
Did motor run ? Any other codes in diagnostic? (any one modifier button 4 sec on 4 secs off 5 times.) F codes are failures and C codes are portions of test cycle(automaticly run)

The following list of codes indicates an electronics communication problem with the washer:
Duet HT® washer - F01, F03, F06, F11, F23, F24, F27, F28, F29, F30, F31, F32, F35, F42, F61, F62, F63, F64, F65, F70, F71, and F99
Duet® washer - F05, F07, F09, F10, F11, F13, F14, F15, F21, F22, and FdU
Duet SportTM washer - F01, F11, F23, F24, F27, F28, F29, F30, F31, and F33

To remove the error display, press Pause/Cancel twice.

If Pause/Cancel does not work:

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power for one minute.
2. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
3. Re-select the cycle and press Start.

NOTE: If the error remains on the display, call for service.

F28 is a communication error which usually means there is a connection that has come loose. Removing the top and unpplugging and replugging the connectors in will fix 75% of these codes. If the bottom toe panel is not on it will also give you an F28.
