What oil does my troybuilt pressure wash use, its 4.5 hp unleaded gas 4500 psi? it just stalled while i was using it looked like oil was low, i have no manual and there was no info on unit so i added 10w-30 regular motor oil now engine wont start?

check oil level and condition ---check and test oil pressure --

Briggs and Stratton always used SAE30 only grade oil for 4 strokes. Do not put oil in the gas.

Maybe your gas cap is bad an not ventin allowing air behin the fuel

it is a 4 stroke motor so it just runs on neat unleaded fuel.
oil is in the engine and this should be 30w oil

Check to see whether 4 stroke is written on engine. If this is the case, regular gas can be used.

unleaded gas is all nothing fancy just regular gass it is a 4 stroke so no mixing

if you left it sit for a while & did not turn the fuel tap off,it may have flooded and therefore the oil level would have risen causing the oil to over flow.

always turn the fuel tap off when not using your pressure wahser.

Fill the tank to over 1/2 tank and add Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner

Do a fuel pressure test at the fuel rail.

The PSI should be 55-70 psi (or check the sticker under the hood)


Test fuel pump relay.

Check oil level and oil pressure. Low oil pressure,low oil pressure reading can stop the fuel pump from ran. It's a build in safety feature.

If it start and ran better the add only bottle of RED Iso-heat dry rule out water in fuel.


My bet is a weak fuel pump.

Fuel pump with over 110,000 miles will like to fail in a HOT day.


You are on the right track,

That engine requires a separate gas and oil. There is an oil sump with oil level needle and cap on the side of the engine. This is where you fill it with special pressure washer pump oil available from any good outdoor store or place where pressure washers are sold. As for gas, Unleaded or Premium unleaded gas will work fine. Try not to use any fuel with ethanol blends however. It is possible that the oil pressure switch is not functioning properly or you have a lighter oil in the machine than is recommended.
