no really, I am just a smart a$$ --- but the loud pop sounds like it may have been one of the capacitors in the power supply board. check for a POPPED cap (rare) and if there is one, test the components in the related circuit - as SOMETHING had to happen to make a cap fail like that - maybe a voltage regulator? give it a look..
Good Day;
On that model look for a small yellow cap, half the size of coin, dime. LOOK very closely and you will see a small burnt spot on the cap. The TV uses about 4 of them, they are 120/110 @ 2 kv. There are located in the high voltage circuit.
This the most common, it could be flyback or HV devider.
Good Luck and Day, big irish.
LET ME know.
Does the timer/stand-by light blink at all? If so, count how many times it does. It will usually be in intervals. If it isn't blinking, and you have nothing on the screen, you might have a problem with the "G" Board, part # A1316499A.
I don't know if this will help you but I just experienced a similiar problem with a sony kp-53s35. It turns out that a fluid leaked out of a rubber boot on one of the guns( I have no idea what the fluid is or why it is corrosive), down to a circuit board and started to desolve a jumper wire. when it had eaten away enough of the wire, the residue or solution was conductive enough to cause an arc to a ground bus bar that ran along the circuit board. The TV still worked but would crack and pop like firecrackers inside. I was able to increase the distance to the ground source by bending the bar away. Then I scraped and scrubbed the board with contact cleaner to remove residue and replaced jumper wire. Has worked fine since.
