Hi,
When I turned on my Canon Powershot SD750 today, the display screen is black. All of the functions work (I can take a picture - although it comes out black, change the scene, etc), but nothing shows up in the LCD screen. It is almost like there is a lens cap on the lens (which obviously isn't true). The camera has not suffered any trauma, and it worked fine yesterday. Do you know a quick fix to make an image appear? Thanks
Dear All,
I solved my problem for Canon Ixus 750, i gently tap 3-4 times the camera in my sofa. I think the shuter was stack! Was stupid i know but is works perfect now!
after reading all the solution I tryed hitting it with my knuckle and it work!! hey it wasn't working before so what did I have to lose.
Thank you. It sounded crazy, but i took the battery out, gently tap the camera on a soft chair,
then, I put the battery back in, and bingo ! it works again !! THANKS !
My screen had absolutely no display, nothing. I thought it was trash, but messing with the video recorder display and pushing buttons (especially record, display and function) and then taking out battery while lens was still out, I then switched it to regular picture taking, after a couple of tries screen came on and went to settings and set them to default and it worked fine after that!!! I post this for those who have no display. May be the lens my not be!!!

Just throw it on the ground; hard! It works for me... SERIOUSLY!
Same problem - CCD not working. Can display the menus, the settings, and pictures that were taken previously, but can not take new photos or video.
Solution #3 (throw camera hard on the ground) seemed a little harsh to me. But I did tap it firmly a couple of times on my notebook and it now works. (though I can't say for how long).
BTW removing the battery numerous times, switching video & photo modes, pointing it into the sun, etc... did not work for me.
I just slammed the base of the camera on my desk - works now!
I have a canon ixus i and I had the same problem, turned my camera on and no image on the screen, I still took a photo and tested the SD card to veiw the picture, the picture was there, so put the card back in my camera and it still not work, read a few answers on this site, thought had nothing to loose, and tapped my camera on my knee a couple of times, turned it back on and it worked, Wow I thought, glad I read this site, I was ready to go buy another camera.
Solution #3 worked for me... Thanks guest...
The question I have for those of you looking for a solution -
When you turn your camera on, do you see things like the display of the flash, the number of shots remaining in the memory card, the iso you are shooting in?
Basically is there any information on the LCD at all other than a picture, or is the LCD completely black all the time.
If the LCD is completely black, then there is a high chance it your LCD itself that is bad, but if there is information (and no picture) on the LCD, that leads us to the conclusion that the CCD is most likely bad.
For the person with only 3 months (and others with less than a year with the camera), send it back for free warranty repair. Call 1-800-OK-CANON
For those with more than a year, give the following solution a try with your cameras. Please come back and comment whether it worked or not. The symptoms do sound like it might be a defective CCD imager. Unfortunately the SD750 is not listed on Canon's advisory for the famous CCD problem. The following fix can sometimes "jog" a bad CCD back into working condition:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t295396-canon_s2_black_screen
If the above does work (cross your fingers), try to use your camera at least once a week in a well lit area to keep it working.
I have same problem. Black screen come and go. Unfortunately it go when I need to take pics. After couple of days it works ok and then screens goes black again.
Good pics quality and large screen easy to use and all other feature are SCRAP when it don't work on special occasions.
Goodby Canon....
Same exact problem with mine... sooooooooooooo mad..just got to Nashville, with a brand new 4G card....and now cant take any pictures at all... Really really frustrating... !!!!!!!!!!! It was a gift too...the person who bought it is no longer here..so what am I to do when I dont have any information on the warranty??? any advice..plz email: [email protected]
Thanks!!!

Best Solution worked for me?!?!?. Not sure if following the instructions got the screen to come back, but it did come back. I just flipped it over to movie messed with the settings and then open up the battery door which turned off the camera. Closed the door, Flipped to photo and turned it back on and it workd. This is the second PowerShot that I have had, current SD750 and an old S230, to do this.
I just took my camera back to Sears where I bought it 2 weeks ago.
They completely exchanged it and gave me a brand new one. It was less than 30 days so Sears honored their warrenty.
I also called Canon and they said that they would fix it for free it I sent it in.....
I have the same problem, I can see the photos already taken, but if I take a new one it's just all black.
Hope there will be a solution soon :s, I only have 3 months with my camera.
I also have the same problem but I would also like to mention that the LCD seems to be working perfectly (at least for mine). I can still see the numbers and stuff on the sides and when I check to see the pictures I have already taken in the picture menu I can also see those images perfectly clear.
Is there a way to perform a hard restart on this camera? That might be the solution. Thanks.
By the way I only had this camera for about 2 weeks. My little brother was playing around with it and taking a couple pictures for a little bit and this suddenly happened. This makes me believe that he simply touched something in the settings.

Sorry, I missplaced the comment in the solutions area :p
I have the same problem. Screen gone black but everything else works. What do I do?
I have a similar problem but if I take one "picture" that turns out all black then the LCD screen comes back to life and can take unlimited pictures. But I have to do this each and every time I turn the camera on.
My S5IS is only 3 weeks old. Help?
when i turn on my Canon Powershot A60, the display is balck or sometimes white, but it has all the functions showing on the side, and replay image shows/works,except when i want to take a picture, it will but shows no image. I used to wiggle it before, change settings/mode and it comes back to life, but now i have a hard time, and for several days it will not work, like the lens is covered by something, let me know if there is a fix for this problem, thanks!
I had exactly the same problem today, in the middle of my vacation. The lcd screen will display pictures taken before screen went black, and displays adjustments, but screen is black when pointing it at object.
