This is typical when the set is old as there is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling , tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs.
Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Please find below two links for tips on poor start ups, as if the set is totally failed the SMPS might be faulty.

It sounds that your TV has Philips main board fitted. This kind of flash pattern is of Philips.
Counting of number of blinks to Philips TVs is entirely different to that of other brand TVs. It is not a direct count procedure. The site have details about how to count the number of LED blinks [Fault Codes] to Philips brand TVs are given; along with details of the faulty circuit location.

Sharp aquos lenovo sl410 hdmi cable

Have the same problem. Old laptop works fine connected to Sharp Aquas LC 46D65U. New HP 17 envy connected by same hdmi cable has intermittent flickering (screen shuts between 1 and 2 seconds. Computer works fine on other tv's. .HP tech support says its not the laptop. TV's 5 years old. Tried 2 HDMI cables. (one suggestion was to change the tv output to 1080i or 1080p opposite to current selection, but I havent figured out how to do that yet). Wondering if its a window 8.1 issue....windows 7 works fine on the old laptop.

Sharp lc-26dv12u about 2years old. All of a sudden

Sounds like the Main mother board is the problem. When the processor chip overheats, the programming information passing through the chip slows down. Most cases, replacing the main mother board will fix the problem.

My 32-inch lcd tv from sharp has no picture but audio works fine. No picture ever comes up, not even the "please wait" message. Whats going on?

My 3 year old Sharp LC-40C32U would start up fine but within a minute would go dark (audio continued fine). For a while I could turn the set off and on again and it would be fine, but over time this became less effective. My solution, which has worked for a week now, was to a) unplug the set's power cord; b) after 3 minutes plug it back in and turn the set on; c) on the remote hit MENU and slide over to SETUP (3 clicks to the right if the screen is dark) and one up to RESET; d) hit ENTER and follow the prompts. This puts the set in it's factory configuration so you will have to rescan for channels. Worked for me.
