CONSTANT FLASHING CF LAMP NIKON D300

Hi,

I recently noticed the CF lamp on Nikon D300 is constantly flashing and draining my battery power when the camera is off. I have tried inserting a new compact flash card Lexar Professional udma x300 2g card and have reformatted my existings memory cards (San disk extreme III 2gb & Lexar Professional Udma x300 4g card) with no success. Camera was working fine with these cards up until a couple of days ago. Can you help please?

Gary

Hi,

Am afraid that it is an internal hardware problem. Chances are that the electronic trigger that fires the flash has shorted out and is therefore making the flash work even with the camera off. Since this would involve electronic circuitry and components, use of a DVM and a low wattage soldering iron or even a hot air blower, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional. Often even if you can actually open the unit for a look and see of the trigger/flash module, replacement part availability would be a major concern.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

After rereading you post , you could try cleaning the memory contact pins/terminals and see if this helps or correct the issue.

No LCD display, "CLOCK" flashing

Seems the camera's internal battery (different from the EN-EL3 main battery) has drained. As the manual says, you can recharge the internal battery by leaving a fully-charged main battery in the camera for three days.

If the camera continues to pester you for clock setting, you'll have to send it in for service. (Opening the camera likely voided your warranty, btw.)

Why is it my memory card indicator light on my Nikon D90 keep flashing when i switch off my camera???? which caused my battery to run out all the time??

The memory card indicator light flashing indicates that data is being written to the memory card. At he bottom of page 29 of the User Manual it states.

DO NOT remove battery or disconnect power source while the lamp is lit. Failure to do so could result in DAMAGE TO THE CARD.

REFER TO PAGE 29 & 39 of the USER Manual for further details.

You may possibly have a fault with the camera and it is this that is causing the battery to drain, this needs to referred to a qualified Nikon Service Centre

Picture went out completely flashing red status light 4 flashes pause constant

Most likely the lamp is burnt out (indicator goes to constant red status). Replace lamp (get lamp P/N from User Manual for replacement), clean any dirt around lamp, fan, and rear filter. Do NOT get any fingerprints on new lamp.

Don't know which card Nikon coolpix900

Hi there,

I believe the coolpix 900 takes compact flash (CF) I wouldn't worry about getting a particularly good one though just a standard CF card would be sufficient for testing purposes.

hope this helps.

Nikon SD card for D80 / D200/ D300

You should have no trouble using the SDHC cards. SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. The images should load directly from camera to computer, without the need for any additional hardware.
