    I had same problem. Went to STARHUB service centre here. They themselves done all the setting changes. Now GPRS is working fine.

     As ur sayin u have got the phone frm Usa ..so frst of all u need to get the software of this mobile unlocked from any of mobile operator only than it will accept ur local sim card.
