If the power is on and the screen does not show up , try to hook an external monitor using the VGA cable. If the screen does show up, it means that the problem is in the laptop LCD monitor itself. Otherwise if the external monitor does not show up, that means your laptop does not boot anymore to the operating system. Try to turn off the power and remove the power cable and battery on the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the battery and power cables on the laptop then turn on the laptop. If there is still no screen displayed then call Lenovo for repair of your laptop.

Computer is not working

The computer may be in hibernate or standby. Try pressing the space bar, and then wait a moment. See if anything happens. If nothing happens, press the power button for one second and wait a moment and see if anything happens. If nothing occurs, you may need to force a restart.

To force a restart, hold in the power button for approximately 15-20 seconds, this should force the computer to turn off all the way. If holding the power button doesn't do the trick - you can unplug the computer from the wall and take out the laptop battery as a last resort.

Once you are sure the computer is off all the way, press the power button and see if anything at all shows on the screen. If you are not able to see any information on the screen, it is possible that the Laptops screen has gone bad. If you have an external monitor you can try to plug into it and see if anything shows. If nothing shows, it is possible the video card/motherboard is gone bad.

To fully diagnose a bad motherboard or video card - you would need to take it to a qualified computer technician.

Hi i have a compaq presario laptop and after it stars up the screen just goes blank

Hi there,
do you still see the compaq logo and does it show you the windows boot up screen before it goes blank?
OR
do you see anything on the screen at all after pressing the power button?
Check if the laptop is receiving power. If it has power and you can't see anything on the screen it could mean that the LCD assembly or the Video card of your laptop is bad.
If it goes to the compaq screen and then to windows logo before going out, try booting into safe mode and once there uninstall the video driver from the device manager because that means the resolution was set to something higher than the display could handle.
If it restarts after showing the compaq screen try reseating the memory, hard drive and wireless card of your computer put them one by one and try turning the compter on after each part you put back to check which component is point of failure.
Otherwise you have a bad motherboard and it may have to be replaced.
Hope this helps!

The monitor on my Toshiba P25-S5093 does not have any display of any kind; all black. I have display using external monitor.

Hi,
Does the display show anything before you enter windows? If yes, then press the key to transfer video back to your original screen once you enter windows. It should be the function key "Fn" + F5 - F8. looks for the icon which shows a monitor or says "CRT/LCD".
If it doesn't show anything before you enter windows I'm afraid your screen needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Screen is black

Try connecting it to a external monitor and see if it comes on. If now then most likely due to a faulty GPU. Check out www.bootmylaptop.com for a DIY repair guide.

Laptop turns on for a couple seconds but then shuts down, screen doesnt show anything during that ttime

Remove the battery and plug the laptop. If there is no activity when you push on the power button (not even for a second) your motherboard is defective: it could be only the power jack, but it could be a bigger problem also.
There is a very small chance to be a memory problem; check the memory as it follows;
- if you have 2 memory modules use only one at a time, the other one could be defective or
- check your memory with another laptop or
- use some known good memory etc.

If there is no activity or no video signal with good memory that means the motherboard is defective. Could be expensive to be repaired or replaced. Verify if the laptop is in warranty and have it checked by a professional.

MX 6124 Gateway notebook screen stays black when powering up

Repaired! This sounde like a fuelty screen or screen inverter. To check this, connect to an external monitor, if the external works properly, then it's the screen or inverter. If the external doesn't work, let me know and we'll run the problem down to a more indepth (internal) trouble shoot.
