If I understand correctly, you have an indoor timer
Your timer is Woods brand. (other brands may program differently)
Your timer has a circular dial on the front. (other types of timers do not have a dial, they has a digital display)
Your timer plugs into the wall -or- it is installed in-wall where a switch goes.
Here is a photo that might help.
To set current time, you rotate dial until is lines up with the triangle shape located on inner dial.

Push pins in and out to control ON OFF functions.
If your timer plugs into the wall, then it will not have the manual override slider switch shown above.
