Hi i have a lexmark x3650 printer im trying to scan to the computer and it is sayin it cant download application list, what does this mean

If your pc tels you its downloading application, have a look a your printer drivers, your usb cable connecting your pc to printer and or the data cable inside the scanner might have gone faulty

You can try out these two options one by one to fix it up:

A)
1 Unplug the printer.
2. Uninstall the drivers.
3. Reboot the machine.
4. Go to the lexmark site and download the drivers.
5. Install the new drivers.

B)You will get the "CANNOT RETRIEVE APPLICATION LIST" if your pc blocks the communication from the printer. This can be configured in your personal firewall. This can be Windows Firewall (found in Control Panel, Security Center), Symantec Client Firewall or similar. Depending on the configuration of this firewall you might or might not get pop-up messages from the firewall during installation. These pop-ups will allow you to permanently allow for this incoming communication. But your firewall might be set not to let you decide anything which will typically mean that the calls will be blocked out. This will often be the case if you have a company laptop configured by the company IT dept. You might then have to ask an admin to add exceptions the applications used by Lexmark as the configuration might not be open for you to change.

Try scanning from Lexmark Printer Home. To do that, on your computer, click on Start > All Programs > Lexmark > Lexmark Printer Home.

Make sure the scan software is already installed in your computer. If not, install it using the installation cd that came with your printer. If scan software is already installed and was working before, you can uninstall and reinstall the software. Check your firewall. Make sure to allow all Lexmark communications to go through. Its looking to associate an application to itself that it can send the images to. Most all in one printers provide software for this purpose. You have to install the software that came with your unit

Try to scan by pressing the scan button on the printer, if this works. Then try to scan from the application that came with the printer. Please let me know the results.

You must install the scanner software that came on your installation disc. If you do not have it you can download it from Lexmark itself. Without the software installed the computer has no idea that your printer has scanning capability.Once you are done you should be pleased, I have always gotten good scans from my Lexmark products.

I still need an answer to this problem. I have seen a similar problem listed on fixya, except this person had two printers and I have one. So, I feel like it's a question that has an answer without having to pay for assistance on this. Please provide me with an answer since it's within the realm of questions that are answered on fixya.

Uninstall driver,,,,restart computer..reinstall driver...if its a vista operating system..try the downloaded drivers from www.lexmark.com.
