The CMOS battery is the RTC battery. Real Time Clock.

It's smaller version of the CR2032 batteries you're used to seeing in a desktop computer.
It's in a plastic holder that resembles a bag. The plastic 'bag' wraps around the battery.
There are two wires attached to the battery, and come out of the 'bag'.

One wire connects to the Positive pole of the battery, and the other wire connects to the Negative pole.
The wires are soldered to the Battery.
At the end of the wires opposite of the Battery is a small white connector. It's a Male connector.
The Male connector plugs into a Female connector on the motherboard.

Once you have the RTC battery pack removed, and the battery itself removed out of the 'bag', you can match up a new battery to it. Carefully make a **** in the side of the bag, and remove the battery/wire combo.
Have a competent repair person remove the wires, and connector to the old battery, and solder the wires/connector to the new battery.
Install the battery/wires/connector combo back in the 'bag', use glue to seal the 'bag' once more.
(Or you can use silicone)

The RTC Battery is on the BOTTOM of the motherboard. This means the laptop has to be completely disassembled in order to access the RTC Battery.

In the above heading it states Acer TravelMate 4000 PC Notebook. This is the TravelMate 4000 series.
There are many models in that 4000 series.
The Model Number is on the bottom of the laptop.

Models in the 4000 series are; 4000, 4010, 4020, 4050, 4060, 4070, 4080, 4100, 4150, 4200, 4210, 4220, 4230, 4260, 4280, 4320, 4330, 4330G, 4400, 4500, 4520, 4530, 4600, 4650, 4670, 4720, 4730, and 4730G.
The above Model list may not be complete.

The disassembly guide for the Acer TravelMate 4000 series will cover all of the above models.

Scroll down with your eyes to the Travelmate heading.
Go down to the third line that starts with 2700, read across to 4000.
Click on 4000.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
However if you do not have the latest Adobe Reader, I would suggest downloading it.
(Adobe Reader 9.3.4)

After you click on 4000 nothing will happen for up to 30 seconds. (Maybe more)
The screen will be blank. The file is downloading in the background, and after it has fully downloaded, the first page will pop up.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.
Would appreciate it if you would rate my solution.

I was hoping that the battery could be replaced without having to solder it; are you sure that the battery has to be soldered?

Where is the cmos battery located on the samsung r60 plus

Glad to HELP YOU!

As a rule of thumb: for laptops/notebooks/netbooks the CMOS battery is located under the keyboard. So you have to remove the keyboard in order to reach the CMOS battery.
Here I've found for you a nice video that will show you everything in detail.

How do I replace a dead cmos on acer 4520LCi travelmate laptop? The laptop no longer keeps track of system time when shut off completely. Can you tell me the exact location of the cmos so I can be able to...

Hi,

what you replace is not the CMOS, but the CMOS battery.

On an ACER from those years the CMOS battery looks like a coin, or a coin wrapped in plastic and connected to the motherboard.

On most models from same series the battery is located on the lower side of the motherboard, like on picture below:

On some model the battery may be located underneath the keyboard.

Here disassembly instructions for a similar model.

CMOS

The cmos on the Pavilion is going to be in one of three places, and will be one of two styles of battery. The cmos style will be either a large watch type battery about the size of a nickle located in a slot on the mother board, or in a yellow or greenish pouch with two wires leading to a connector, located under a cover on the bottom of the machine, or under the keyboard.
