Blurred subjects I changed Memory cards and now as i try and focus on a subject it is blurred. Is there something I need to do. My old XD Memory card is also showing blurred pic's.Help

I am not sure if this is the right solution. If you mean the focus is constantly changing while shooting in video mode, you have to change your settings to something other than tracking and auto focus. When these menus are selected, the camera constantly adjust it's lens to maintain the subject in focus. If the subject moves, the camera re-adjust again and that usually records the blurred moments in the video.

That would depend on why the pictures are blurry.

If the pictures are blurred because of camera motion, you need to either use a faster shutter speed or place the camera on a tripod or other stable support.

If the pictures are blurred because the subject is moving, you need to use a faster shutter speed.

If the pictures are blurred because it's out of focus, you need to ensure that the camera is focusing on what you consider to be the subject, not what the camera chooses.

There is usually two reasons you get blurred photos. 1) camera movement and 2) subject movement ... sometimes both. This happens when the shutter speed picked by your camera is too slow and unless you have the digital hd video camera on a tripod, it has some kind of image stabilization scheme and the subject is not moving, you will get blurred images.

I am surprised you picked a camera that cannot use your old SD cards. Did you know that only Olympus and Sony do NOT use SD cards?

Portrait provides extra sharp focus on the subject. It also opens the aperture some, and may in SOME cases give you a blurred backbround depending on the distance of the subject and background to the camera.

If outdoors, consider setting the camera to manual flash so that it will lighten the subject. If indoors, consider turning off the flash. You may need to provide better external lighting on the subject, or use a tripod and ask the subject to hold still during the picture.

Try increasing the zoom (best is to set it to maximum), and then adjust your distance from the subject to get as close as possible. Note that you still might be standing relatively far away because of the zoom.

Another way to experiment further with focus and blurred backgrounds is to use aperture priority (Av) mode on your dial. Use the right/left button to set the lowest "f-number" on your screen. The lower the number, the greater the aperture. All other functions of your camera will automatically compensate. Again, use max zoom in taking closeups with low "f-numbers". Also experiment with the manual focus to pay particular attention to achieving sharp focus on your subjects eyes.

You have a very capable camera. It can do what you're thinking of. You just need to practice with it. It's digital, experiment with the above techniques. Throw away the bad pics and keep the good, noting which technique worked best for the lighting and situation.

OK that was a lame answer up there! If you want to add motion blur to your photographs there are several ways. There are two main motion blurs that can be achieved. One is the background blur to give your subject a fast motion feel while being able to identify your subject, like a race car. The other is subject blur to give a motion effect to your subject. NOW THE FUN PART - Doing it. The first one is the panning technique, set your camera for the proper exposure for your subject, frame your subject, as it passes by shoot and pivot at your waist while following the subject in the viewfinder, avoid up and down movement, with practice you will figure the right exposure and movement to achieve this blur effect. The second is the subject blur, this is simply adjusting your shutter speed and exposure to allow your subject to pass by with the shutter open long enough for it to leave a blurred image.

Remove the memory card. Reset the camera to default settings (Reset All in the Setup Menu). Don't worry, it won't erase any photos. Try taking a picture in a well-lit area at a moderate distance, with the camera resting on something to keep it still. If it still looks blurry, transfer to the computer and view it there. If that's not blurry, it's the LCD display. If it is, then it's the internal focusing system. Locate your receipt and call Polaroid for service.

If you want the background to be blurred in a shot, you will need to move closer to the subject, recompose the image, and shoot. Since you're shooting digital, I strongly recommend a lot of practicing shooting at different distances and F-stops to determine what you're looking for.

Its possible that there is a CCD issue with your camera. I've been reading more and more people are having CCD issues with the S1-IS. The CCD is the part of the camera that captures the image, and usually they distort or do some funky things with the pictures. Its entirely possible they would knock something out of focus.

hi NO, the battry cannot have make this occur!! its sound like the memory card is retired! borrow 1 from anybody just to see if it works and then buy a new 1 is the image blurred when you download the pic to the computer? if not - its only the LCD how distorded the pic - it dosent matter if soo your lens is bad - it needs a fix good luck
