Wow I appreciate your spirit but this is probably a loosing battle. Even if there was a repair manual you would still need the tools. This is a $150.00 - $200.00 lens. I'd probably elect to buy a new one and sell the broken one on EBAY for parts or try to take it apart just to satisfy my curiosity. Sounds like you like adventure.
Get a quote first for the repair as this lens is the least expensive Canon lens and it could be that the combined cost of postage and repair will exceed to cost of a brand new replacement.
First question "is it worth repairing" if it were mine I'd look to see what a new one is worth then divide that in half (cause that's what you might be able to buy a used one for) then figure about $120.00 for cleaning lubricating and adjusting the your lens. With your lens you know what you have, buying used might need the service. you are the one to decide. As for the second question "can I repair it myself" short answer no. If you have to ask if you can repair it then you don't have the necessary tools and general knowledge of how to dismantle and reassemble the lens (and have it work when finished). The lens took a hit and most likely set the inner and outer lens barrels out of alignment causing the inner barrel to slip out of its seal and or focusing gear and hang things up forcing it will break parts causing more repair costs. All else fails get an estimate before repair. Been there with a lens myself and after a couple a months without bit the bullet and had it repaired. Cheers best of luck
Re-coating is not usually possible and will cost more than a new lens element.
The front element is one of the most expensive parts of the entire lens so replacement is often not cost effective. Fitting it and ensuring correct optical alignment is not a DIY job.
The real question is whether the marking is readily visible in the images and if so whether it's a minor artefact which can be edited out? If so, then repairs to the lens are simply not worth doing.
With that amount of damage your lens is almost certainly a write-off.
From the description you need a new harness, new mounting and possibly a new barrel as well. To be broken that badly usually means that there will be additional hidden damage which will be revealed during the repair.
Your lens is a high value item though, so you really need to get a professional lens repair technician to appraise the damage. If the lens is uneconomic to repair then I suggest that you sell it for spares or repairs on a popular auction website; there's usually an optimistic fool who will buy it for more than it's worth, and there will be professional repairers who can work on it in the brief quiet periods between other jobs.
I have one which you can buy off me... Everything is great with mine except hole where the tipod goes into has had the thread stripped and the flap for the battery door is broken... I also wanted to repair mine but can't find the parts. So I guess I could sell you mine as I have just upgraded to a Canon 40d.
If the button has come out, then it may be that the parts which hold it in are broken, or other damage internally. One suggestion is to buy a camera like it with another problem such as lens problems. Trade the parts necessary.
Other option is to have it repaired. That may cost more than it is worth..
Not worth repairing-- a new focuser for your telescope would cost as much or more than the telescope-- unless you can find a discarded telescope of the same model..... for parts.
