check the boot order in the bios settings
check the power cord is connected to the hard drive
IS it Sata or IDE hard drive cable ?
Is it a red flat 1/4 inch wide cable (SATA)
or a 50 wire wider grey cable flat ribbon (IDE)
Another more sinister cause could be the bios on the motherboard does not handle the larger 1 Tb hard drives .
Do a google search on the bios chip number to get the motherboard type and check its specs to see if it can handle larger hard drives
A "media test failure, check cable" means your hard disk failed. The bios can not locate the boot sector of the hard disk to begin loading the operating system. "Operating system not found" means windows can't load because the Bios can not find the operating system (because the hard disk failed).
This is pretty much an unrecoverable error in terms of fast fixes. You can take the hard disk to a data recovery service if you need to retrieve important data or files.
If you have a BOOT CD then try to boot and go to windows. Or you can use windows setup CD but go for repair only. For the future it is a good idea to INSTALL WINDOWS in a USB mini drive and boot the computer from USB. You have to go to BIOS and set USB default drive. It is a good idea to clone your HD in a CD.
This is showing because the computer is not seeing the hard drive that contains the operating system. In some cases this is because the hard drive has come dislodged from the interface on the motherboard. Dells are good for this because the hard drive slides into the side of some models. Try reseating the hard drive and reboot. Your worse case scenario is that your hard drive has failed. The reason you are seeing the PXE-MOF etc. is that the laptop ias now looking for a network hard drive to boot from. It can't find the intenal hard drive so it is searching for other means to boot.
Remove all the physical components of your computer and have it clean. You can use a brush or a blower and then reinstall your computer operating system. If it is windows xp then you will be needing the software for windows xp installation and then support cd for your motherboard and all support drivers.
