Clean or format card error on Olympus XD card

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone of you could help me with the following:-

clean or format card error on Olympus XD card

The above started on an Olympus camera stylus 850 SW using a 2 Gb Olympus card. I was viewing the pictures from my card on my pc using a card reader. I was able to see the pictures and whilst the pictures were being transferred to the memory, I was trying to rotate some of the pictures already appeared.
Whilst the pics were being rotated, the process seem to freeze my pc and therefore was oblige to reboot my system.
After that I was not able to see the card from the card reader. Therefore inserted the card in the camera instead and now getting the following message :clean or format card error.

Any help would be graetly appreciated.

Thanks

my brand new olympus stylus 850 sw did the same thing. i have the olympus xD type M+ 1GB high speed memory card which Olympus says works with this model. it was working fine but today i started getting an error message ... i cannot read the media. i have taken it out, blown on it, put it back in, still nothing. i put the card into the reader slot on my printer, same thing. did you find a solution? if i try to format the card, i am sure i will lose everything on it.

So you could take pictures, and it would write to the card, prior to the computer freezing up?

I tried solution #1 using PC inspector Smart Recover. Worked flawlessly. recovered every single picture on the guard, which is DAMN lucky because they were my college grad pics.

SOURCE: clean or format card error on Olympus XD card

There are most likely some "corrupted" images on your xD card. Very often a card reader "writes" data to the card while transferring or copying images into the computer. When you re-insert the card back into the camera, it doesn't recognize the new data (because it didn't create it), and gives the error, usually requiring a complete formatting be performed. There are also problems if you use a reader to rotate images, then re-install the card in the camera. The best way to accomplish what you were doing is to transfer the images into a folder on your computer, as the camera shot them (don't rotate them first). That way, you haven't altered any data on the card. For now, however, I suggest you format the card in the camera, so you can start with a "clean slate". Good luck.

Format problems of Olympus 1Gb card with C-750UZ

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb card is not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.

XD Card format

Have you sent the camera to olympus for the free upgrade to enable the xd 512gb and 1gb card? go to the olympic site and then to their support page for c-50zoom and look for instructions for the upgrade, you must have the product ID from the package and the sales receipt and make sure you have purchased the olympus sponsored card mfg. This is listed in the instructions. They get the job done pretty quick and pay for the return shipping.
