On boot i cant select open windows with mouse? all open windows are gray and cannot b selected or have any of the buttons/pulldown menus used. But when i open the task manager then i can click on the windows again and its all working again? any ideas , btw i put new batteries in both mouse and kb

Apparently, when grayscale printing is selected, some color ink is still used which is why you are getting a pinkish gray color instead of just gray. Here are instructions for solely using the black ink tank.

Print using pigment black ink only (Windows)
Instructions to print using only the pigment black ink tank only. Occasionally you may need to print using black ink only. Using grayscale alone does not provide this option and the color inks will still be used. By following this procedure you may print using only the pigment black ink tank.

Note: Some color ink will still be used for print head maintenance.

Note: Image quality may be sacrificed when printing photographs.

Open the Properties / Preferences window for the printer.

For Windows 7
Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Devices and Printers .'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows Vista

There are many reason for a system goes to safe mode directly.here is the solution to solve the issue

Follow the steps:

Immediately begin tapping the "F8" key when the reboot sequence begins (make sure your "F Lock" key is activated.) Once the black "safe mode" screen appears, then first try selecting the option "Start Windows Normally" using your mouse or keyboard up and down keys. Allow Windows to boot, log into your profile and wait for the program to fully configure. Once that is completed, go to the "Start" button and select "reboot." If all is well, the "safe mode" will not reappear.

If that fails, then repeat the reboot sequence -- tapping the "F8" key repeatedly -- and when "safe mode" reappears, choose the "Last Known Good Configuration" selection and allow it to go through the same sequence as in the above paragraph.

If the above does not work and your system continues to first boot into "safe mode" it is possible that a setting in the boot configuration file is checked.

For that go to start -> RUN and Type in "msconfig" in the provided box and hit "enter." The "System Configuration Utility" will appear. Using your mouse or right arrow key, select the "BOOT.INI" tab. Look for the "boot options" section and the "SAFEBOOT" selection box. If it is checked, uncheck it, select the "Apply" button and then "OK."
Go to the "Start" button and select "reboot" and your machine should now boot directly into Windows.

If you power on and see the HP bios boot screen, the HP symbol, then the screen goes black, try pushing the F10 or F12 keys when you power on and select boot in safe mode. If the computer boots and you can see everything, power down and see if it will boot correctly to regular Windows. If you can not boot to a screen that you can see in safe mode you have a much larger problem and need to get a technician to look at the laptop to find the problem.

Normally with the new laptops you have to press F2 to access your bios settings, you will definitely be able to select the boot device from there.

If F2 does not work startup your laptop and watch the screen, there must be an option that will tell you which key to press to enter bios.

If the screen comes and goes to fast for you, press the pause button on your keyboard so you can read it at your own time and do your actual selection.

if you open my computer you should see a new drive letter, probably d: or e: with "removable drive" next to it. You double click the icon and then another window should open up with nothing on it. Now you open up another window "my pictures" or wherever your pictures are, and select the ones you want. you can select all of them by clicking edit>>select all on the top toolbar, or pressing the CTRL button while simultaneously clicking the pics you want to drag with your mouse. When you are done, click one of the pics you selected and, holding the left mouse button down, drag the pics to the micro drive. All pics will carry over that you have selected. Hope this helps!

1. Open the Control Panel and click Mouse.

This is one of my favorite tweaks as it makes a huge difference to how
fast your machine will 'feel'. What this tweak does is remove the slight
delay between clicking on a menu and XP displaying the menu.

Go to Start then Run
Type 'Regedit' then click 'Ok'
Find "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\"
Select "MenuShowDelay"
Right click and select "Modify'
Reduce the number to around "100"
This is the delay time before a menu is opened. You can set it to "0" but
it can make windows really hard to use as menus will open if you just look
at them - well move your mouse over them anyway. I tend to go for anywhere
between 50-150 depending on my mood.
