Install self propelled belt

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Usually the self propelled vacuum have 2 belts and you should replace them both 2 the same time 1st the self propelled belt and then the brushroll belt. Normally you would hook the belt on the pulley side of the brushroll or self propelled unit and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley side of the motor using a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bend on the end for pulling and or stretching either belt onto the motor pulley. If you have a problem please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
Thanks, Don the Vac Man

SOURCE: self propelled wind tunnel vacum will notpropell itself

Must be a Hoover, The flat belt may look ok but I am sure it has stretched to the point where under load it won't drive the wheels or the brush roll. Could also be a bad brush roll.

SOURCE: Self Propel doesn't work on Hoover Wind Tunnel

Your self propel wire could be broken. Lean the vacuum back like you were using it. If you stand in front of the vacuum look down and to your left. When you move the selp propel button you should see a wire move. If not then it's broken.

Why won't hoover wind tunnel self-propel?

Hi there! The self-propelled feature is controlled by a belt. Check the belts on your Hoover Windtunnel by following these quick steps.

1. Recline the handle. Lay the cleaner fat and flip it over to expose nozzle base.
2. Remove the screws attaching the nozzle.
3. Check that the belts are not broken, stretched or damaged.

Replace the belts if they are damaged. Hope this helps!

Is it necessary to take the vacuum cleaner apart to change the belt on a Hoover Wind Tunnel Self Propelled vacuum cleaner, model UI6460-900? If so, how is that done? If not, how do you get the belt on...

To change the belts, make sure the vacuum is not plugged in. Lay it upside down and remove the screws holding the bottom plate on. Remove the bottom plate, pull the brush roll out noting how the belt goes so you will know how to put it back together. Especially how it goes around the idler pulley. Remove both belts, replace both belts, install the V belt onto the transmission first then around the brush roll and put the brush roll in place. Install the flat belt around the motor shaft and then onto the transmission pulley.

Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel U6436-900 cable problem

The flat belt should be changed if it has been longer than 9-12 months. Next I would remove the upper handle to inspect the top section of the control cable, sometimes it fray's and has a sponge feel (no positive control) to self propel. To set this adjustment, it is best to do withthe hood off of the lower section. I would also look at the cable jacket in the foot to make sure it is under the metal clamp. It must be under the clamp to work properly. To get it under the clamp loosen one hold down screw at the top and one in the back of the vacuum, remove clamp screws and put jacket into position and then secure all screws. Now set the adjustment, Install upper handle and set self propel to off. loosen cable from arm in foot with torx screw. manually move arm until the clutch is off both drive pads. This is a visual adjustment. then secure and reassemble vacuum.

Self propel belt is too tight to put back on

the best way to install it is to put it on the motor shaft first and then to start putting it on the large pulley at the top and roll it on these belts can be hard to put on.
