Didnt work for me. HERE is the CONFIRMED fix for this issue straight from Roland. --------------------------------------------- It sounds as though your VS-2000CD's hard drive is fragmented and needs to be formatted. If you have any files and/or audio in your VS-2000CD that you need to backup, then our Roland Service Center can try data recovery. You may contact us at one the phone numbers below for more information regarding data recovery. If you do not have any files and/or audio that you need and you are willing to completely erase any and all files and/or audio from your system then you may apply the following steps to unlock your unit and format (erase) your hard drive: Unlocking the VS-2000CD Turn the VS-2000CD OFF. With the unit OFF, hold down track 4's TRACK/STATUS button as well as the FX2 button and then turn the unit ON--be sure that you are holding these buttons down BEFORE YOU TURN THE UNIT ON. Do not let go of these two buttons until the VS-2000CD has loaded completely. Once the unit has loaded up to the main screen you will need to format the drive; if you do not format the drive then your system may continue to lockup. If the previous step unlocks your system then please proceed to "HDD Formatting". If the previous step does not unlock your system, your hard drive may be malfunctioning and may need replacement. Please contact one of the phone numbers listed below for help regarding hard drive replacement. HDD Formatting: Hold down SHIFT and press F1(Project). Use the ZOOM buttons to cursor up repetitively so that you select drive "IDE:0". Press the PAGE button so that you are on page 4 of the Project Menu. Press F2 to select "FmtDrv"(Format Drive); you will then be on the Format Drive page. Turn Physical Format ON and turn Surface Scan ON. Press F5 to choose OK. ----------------------------------------------- Well this is the 2nd time I have had to find and perform this procedure. Hopefully it will continue to work when the project gets stuck, and not completely die to where I have to have the unit repaired. I love Roland, but this kind of thing is pretty damn scary. I have 3 2480s and I use them professionally so I think I can help you. Looks as if you need to install the OS for the system. It seems as if it lost. You should have the OS on CD and if not contact RolandUS and get one. You would put in the OS into your CD burner and power up the unit. I would recommend Roland HD support be on the other end if you are brand new. They will walk you through. I was one of the first to buy the 2480 when it came out and the manual is just insane to learn.
