2HP AO Smith on an FP5182-08 Flotec pump did not resume irrigation during manual switch over to another spray field. While checking it I found that the hum (attempt to start) apparently shut down by the thermal switch. While separating the motor from the pump I fount the reverse threaded slotted screw completely out of the center of the impeller. I could not detect any sign that the screw was jamming anything. The motor would not sustain impeller spin when I hand started it. I do not detect bearing drag.

SOURCE: My new AO Smith 2HP pool pump won't pump water, just hums

I'm guessing that you replaced the motor that goes to the pump, not the pump itself. You know the motor works just fine. Is the motor rotating in the correct manner(clockwise or counterclockwise) in relation to the rotation of the pump? Have you checked the pump to see if the impeller is working/rotating? Is the motor hooked up to the pump correctly, so that the motor is turning the impeller? Are all connections to the pump tight, so there are no suction leaks? Have you primed the pump and purged it of any air locks?

SOURCE: REMOVE IMPELLER FROM SHAFT A O SMITH PUMP MOTOR HIFLO

The impeller is threaded onto the motor shaft, take the back cover off and use a wrench to hold the motor shaft, then turn the impeller counter clockwise to remove.

Well I know it a dirty job but someone has to did. Unhook the pump from the plumbing and take the pump out so you can see what fell into the sump pit and is lodged in the impellers.
If you have it out already turn the impiller backwords and see if that frees it up.

I just installed a 2 hp AO Smith for a customer, 2 days days later one of the return lines broke and sprayed water everywhere. When I got there and fixed the line and tried to start the motor it would only...

You should try to dry the motor out and not run it until it does. You can use a hair dryer, etc. or just wait. You might even be able to find a spray that is made just for absorbing water under these circumstances at a motor rebuilder. Once it dries, it may work fine.

How to manually reset an AO Smith 2 hp motor?

If you did not press a reset ( and even if you did) the motor is damaged and that is causing the circuit breaker to trip. You need to have the motor inspected to see if the damage is repairable or if you need a new motor. A local electric motor repair shop should be able to take care of that for you. The thermal overload has reset itself if after cooling down the motor is trying to start but trips the breaker.

To be certain it is the motor, disconnect the line leads and be sure they are insulated from ground and one another. Turn the breaker back on. It should stay closed which confirms it is the motor tripping it when connected.

If for some reason the breaker still trips, there is a problem with the electrical circuit feeding the pump.

Irrigation sprinkler pump, flotec, 230VAC wiring

green to srcew on the motor. this is ground.,
Black on T1
Red on T2

If the rotation is going the wrong way, simply switch the black to T2
Red to T1.

Check this before you couple it to the pump..
