Eureka 2981bvz bagless belt pully is getting too hot and burning through belt

I've already replaced the belt thre times on my Eureka upright before I realised the problem wasn't with the belt. The pully that one end of the belt goes around gets so hot it burns through the belt in a matter of minutes. Can this be fixed or is it time for a new vacuum?

I have had the same issue with this model. My problem was with the brush roller. Returned to walmart for replacement and had the same issue with the new one. The brush roller is attached to the chassis with plastic that warps and will not allow the roller to spin freely.

Check the brush roll, if one end has overheated and is locked up so it won't turn, then you need to replace the brush roll.

Eureka Boss - Belt is not broke but brush will not turn. I have already turned it over - checked belt - and pushed the reset button.

The belt may look fine but they can still be stretched or worn and it won' turn the brush. Try changing the belt and see what it does. You can get Eureka belts here:

Eureka 5197 self propelled bagless upright

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).

Eureka Maxima Bagless brush not spinning in vacuum position

belt doesnt have to be broken, check the metal arm on the vacuum, see if there is build up of old rubber from previous belts, clean the arm that spins the belt and double check to make sure u have the correct belt

Smoking belt

Belt is slipping because the bearings on the beater brushes, which it turns, are jammed or full of dust.
Alternatively the belt has stretched after being overheated and needs replacing because it now slips.
