My 50mm 1.8 AF-S is having issues focusing... It is hit and miss if it's focused. I will spend lots of time making sure it's focused and the focus indicator light comes on, but the image won't be focused anywhere. However the next picture may be. It's almost like it's getting major sunflare, or like it's focusing on an invisible point in mid air, thus throwing everything out of focus.... Help! :-) It's my most used lens!

Better you buy new it is very cheapest than other lenses or if you want to use that lens only then keep manual mode and focus with hand

SOURCE: The Auto focus just stop working

Hey Sammymalone,
This lens should have a 1 year manufacturers warranty on it, and if my guess that the USM motor is burned out is true I would have it serviced by an authorized service technician. Before you do this though I would try cleaning the lens contacts to make sure it is communicating with the camera body. I of course am going on the assumption that you have tried other lenses on the camera body to make sure the problem is the lens and not the body. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

SOURCE: auto focus not working

Your Sigma 28-300mm doesn't have a HSM-motor as far as i know. When you switch it from MF to AF, you also have to disengage the manual focusing ring by pulling it towards the camera, or pushing it away from the camera. Using the AF without unlocking the manual focusing ring may damage the AF motor.
I hope this helps,
/Chris

Sorry but if you've tried all the usual fixes then there's nothing more that you can do. Either pay for a professional repair or continue to use the lens manually.

A professional repairer should be able to indicate what the likely costs are going to be and you can then judge whether repairs are cost effective.

Personally, I'd stick to manual focus as I've always preferred knowing exactly what I'm focussing on instead of constantly fiddling with buttons and menus to override what the dumb camera has locked onto.

Nikon Coolpix S32 watreproof camera doesn't focusing properly

You have to know if the FOCUS is the issue or SHUTTER SPEED. In most cases with most CoolPix Cameras if the Image is not in focus (When you push shutter down HALFWAY) the Focus Rectangle will not be GREEN... If it RED it cannot focus. If every time you take a photo the focus area is red then it is not focusing. Small Coolpix cameras have difficulty focusing in low light.

Low light can make a hand held image look blurry because of hand shake. If the light is so low it wants to take a long exposure. This works with a tripod, but not with a hand held photo. With most of these small cameras you can take 1 second night photos with a tripod. They would look horrible handheld.

Typically on the Coolpix cameras you can set the FOCUS mode. It is usually shown with a FLOWER for MACRO... You get AF / FLOWER / MOUNTAIN / MANUAL (may not have this)

Plase make sure your FOCUS MODE is in AF AF is the ONLY Mode where the camera will focus CLOSE and FAR... Light is not your problem..... It seems it is your FOCUS MODE.

I have a weird problem. When i put the 50mm 1.8 on my D90 it continues to autofocus even when I switch the camera body to M mode instead of AF with the switch. I would like to be able to manually focus...

You probably have a problem with the A/M switch on the body-- flipping that switch should extend or contract the autofocus pin that drives the lens. This particular lens doesn't have its own focus motor, so there's no way that it could be focusing on its own without the pin from the body driving it.

Try taking the lens off of the camera and looking at the autofocus pin as you flip the switch from auto to manual focus.

I got this lens (Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D) for my D3100 and it doesn't autofocus. I don't knowhow to intervene since there's no switch on the lens itself (because I understand it is small and it doesn't...

The D3100 can't autofocus with this lens. The D3100 does not have a focus motor, depending on the lens to have one. The AF-Nikkor 50mm doesn't have a focus motor, depending on the camera to have one.

To autofocus, you need lenses designated AF-S.

Nikon 50mm 1.4d does not focus. I can hear the motor make a noise and if I Help it, it will turn. Also it seems stiff when off the camera and you rotate the focus ring.

Sorry to hear about your nifty 50 lens problems. The auto focus motor might have given out and needs repair. You should be able to focus manually with the lens.

How to adjust nikon lens focus

When you say a shift focus issue, what exactly is the issue? Will it not focus to infinity? Is it never in focus, no matter what? Is it an AF lense that is searching for focus?

Either way, it really requires an experienced tech in all but the last case. There are cases where AF simply doesn't work well. You can have it checked, but its likely nothing.

The other issues, it's likely either a misaligned element, an element that's come uncemented, etc. You may be able to look through the lense and see if you can see any separation in the elements, though sometimes it's not terribly evident.

Unfortunately, often unless it's a simple issue lenses are more expensive to open up and do major repairs to than they are to replace. If you'd really like it looked at, contact Nikon for a service center, a local reputable shop, or contact KEH Camera in Atlanta, GA.

My cannon eos rebel x 35mm wont take pictures on auto focus acts like the timing is off. Works fine on manual focus. Have already tried different lenses, batteries, and cleaning.

Your AF module needs to be replaced. Or maybe the mirror part that bounces light to the AF module.

Another possible issue is light. The AF sensors need a certain amount to light to be able to see if its in focus. Some lenses don't allow that much light to pass, so the sensors can't focus the lens. Try a lens that passes more light, like the 50mm f/1.8 or point your lens at a very bright scene.

If increasing the light level doesn't solve it, it needs repair. You might check Ebay for a "parts" Rebel to have spare parts for your good one.

Nikon auto focus lens not working, only in manual

What camera body? This lens doesn't have an internal focusing motor and thus will not autofocus on the D40/D40x/D60/D5000/D3000.

Sony A100 compatible lenses

Virtually all the old Minolta lenses are compatible with the new Sony SLRs.

For the two you mention, you will need to check whether the lenses are the AF or MF versions.

Both will fit, but AF is the auto-focus one, and MF is (obviously!) manual-focus.

If you want a definitive list with tech details on ALL the Minolta / Sony lenses, look here:

DS Front Focus Problem

I had a similar challenge with my D, the difference being it back focussed, it only happened with one lens, my FA* 24/2.0. Strangely, after returning them both to Pentax, it turned out to be the body, not the lens, which was kind of bizarre! Eventually after 3 months of backwards and forwards with the body, Pentax replaced it with a new one. Everything is now fine (apart from 1 hot pixel, which I can cope with). I pursued the matter with politeness and accepted the delays, the staff at Pentax UK were MOST helpful, but tied by company rules that the repairs had to go back to Germany each time, which added probably 80% to the delays. I ran with film in my MZ-S and digital on my Fuji 602 (backup digicam) while it was being sorted. I must admit I'm considering adding another body, but will probably wait until the year Pentax decide to bring the out D replacement.
