My Samsung model #WA4H7000AW/A2 seems to always need an additional rinse to get rid of soap left behind. Is this a common complaint ?

Here are some questions that may help.
1) Is the water hot enough? Since the soap "melts" better at higher temperatures, cooler water can leave a soap film.
2) Are the dishes clean before you run the machine? We like to used the dishwasher to "sanitize" the dishes, so we rinse them really good before washing them, to get off caked food residue.
3) Try changing washer soap, try powder if you used liquid, or visa-versa, and try less quantity and see if any of those help.
God bless your efforts.

A film from the detergent seems to be left on the dishes and glasses after drying.

Look in the detergent aisle for an additive called "Glass Magic." Always use rinse aid. Adding a water softener to your house if you don't have one already. Clean your dishwasher with a dishwasher cleaning agent or something like lime away to remove any residual scum. Hope this helps.

We bought a new dishwasher because we were finding a hardened residue was being left on our dishes, it was ruining our dishes. Although we have a brand new dishwasher this problem is still occurring and...

My best advise is to reduce the amount of detergent to the least amount that you can use, and still get the dishes clean. We do rinse the dishes a bit, as the soft food disposer isn't made to act like a garbage disposer, but rather, to catch incidental food residues. We no longer fill the closed detergent dispenser. We sprinkle about 1/2 of the normal amount (that goes in the open cup) on the inside door and close it up. Our dishes get very clean, with no residue. Also, use a good drying agent as this will help sheet the water off of the dishes. It may take several cycles to see improvements, but you should see improvements nonetheless.

TOP RACK DOESN'T RINSE

I would suggest you buy some CLR and run it through a full heavy cycle with the washer empty. Be sure to put it in all dispenser areas and sprinkle about 1/4 cup into the washer before starting.

Dishwasher repair - Bosch

Can you remove the upper spray arm (is yours under the upper rack?)-mine unscrews and then you have to wiggle it off. Run faucet water into the arm; sometimes little bits of crud get stuck in the holes that spray the water out, and this prevents a complete rinse. I just had to clear these holes myself due to same problem (I might have a different machine, though). You can do the same for the lower arm.
