HLP4663W TV makes loud vibrating noise. Kind of sounds like something is trying to start spinning, but then it stops for a second, and it does so again and again. Even when I turn the tv off, the loud vibrating noise continues for about 3-5 seconds. The picture is there, but it flickers a little and the color looks a little pale.I just put in a new lamp, so I know it is not that. Please help!

SOURCE: Turbine/moaning sound and vibration

Hello,
The grinding sound that you are hearing is your color wheel. They can make a noise from a buzz to a power saw type of noise. Usually the set will continue to play with the noise, but it is annoying. You will need to replace the color wheel now.

This is not as easy as the lamp replacement, as you have to pull the light engine to access the color wheel. It is not hard just more work and be careful of the color wheel lenses.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

SOURCE: Samsung HLR5078W pop sound followed by a loud buzz then shut down

Your lamp burst. This model uses a lamp housing which does not have a filter screen on it. When the lamp bursts, hot pieces of glass and mercury (very toxic) drop straight down into the cooling fan below it. Although FixYa.com (implies I'm suppose to tell you how to fix it) I am going to tell you to call a servicer and have them clean that mess out of there. It's a health issue, I don't want someone unknowingly exposed to mercury on my watch. Let the servicer know what he is getting into. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: I REPLACED THE LAMP ON

I would suggest a simple way to know if color wheel or not; usually color wheel makes high pitched whine or even a grinding sound (like a bad fan).

If you remove the lamp and look carefully where it faces the color wheel is there; you are looking to see if it is shattered or missing pieces etc.

What happens is if the wheel shattered or even slowed way down the set will detect this and shut down. The bearings in the tiny motor for the wheel lock up etc as it is turning at over 12,000 rpm.

If you find it is shattered they are available on the net with video instructions for most models; there are a few things to be aware of that are not usually mentioned when you buy a new wheel and I if you go that route I can tell you a few common pitfalls to avoid.

If you have questions or need assistance let me know, I am here to help.

TV makes a loud humming/vibrating noise when turned on. Screen eventually comes on but is discolored and noise continues

It sounds like the color wheel is beginning to fail and will have to be replaced. You can call Samsung at 1-800-samsung to find the closest service center. I would recommend using an experienced tech to do this repair.

GE Harmony Dryer makes Loud Vibrating noise

If you can open the walls of the dryer up check all screws and bolts that hold things together. Some times they will vibrate loose causing parts to make a vibrating sound against the frame itself.. Eventually the loose screws will just keep getting looser. Even the screws on the walls of the unit should be tightened That could cause a lot of noise.
