One of the screws that secures the toilet seat down seems to be stripped and doesn't allowed the seat to be tighten down. Once I removed it (very difficulty) I realized it came out with a thread insert, that was some how embeded down in the toilet basin. Apparently this type of toilet does not have the traditional hole through the basin allowing a simple hardware combination bolt/washer/nut to be use to secure the seat/cover assembly. Any suggestions on how to keep the toilet seat in place?

You should be able to get it direct from Kohler unless you can't find it at a specialty plumbing shop .

First lift the covers off where the bolts should be (they should lift towards the tank). Are the bolts in place? If not, go to your neighborhood hardware store and look for replacement hardware. (Most stores will have staff willing to help you find the right parts.) Is the bowl damaged so that the holes seem large compared to the holes in the seat anchor points? Are the seat anchor points damaged?

The bolts should have nuts (and possibly washers, but not all models use them) underneath the bowl. Screw down the bolt while holding the nut from turning (so you need an adjustable wrench or appropriately sized wrench). Again see the local hardware store for the hardware if you do not have the nuts. Keep the seat centered as you tighten the bolts. (Alternate tightening until it is stable - do not tighten one bolt all the way down before doing the other side. You risk overtightening and cracking the bowl.)

reach under and hold wing nut or nut while tightening screw if plastic screws are stripped any hardware or home store carry replacement screws

where the hinges sit, use a small screwdriver and prise off the top chrome cover.Under neath are the securing screws for the seat. tighten these carefully until seat is secure, then replace the covers.

When the seat is closed there should be two plastic extensions about one and half inches long, lying flush on the base. Open these with a small screwdriver, like a ****-shell. There should be a regular head screw there and correspondingly underneath the screw, a nylon nut. hold the nut and tighten the screw.

If the screws don't tighten the either the screw threads are stripped or the attachment nut is stripped. Take the screw and nut to any hmoe repair center and get new ones. remember don't over-tighten then screws as this will crack the unit.

well there should be 2 hinges rite behind seat. you wont see the screws cause they are under a plastic cover. take a flat head screw driver and pry up cover. lil cover should lift up towards tank. then you should see screws. the nut is under bowl you have to bend down then look up to see them or do what i do and feel for them. take big flat head or big philips screw driver and while you hold nut titen screw. hope this helps. duane:)

Lift up plastic caps located on ends of hindge behind seat. use flat screw driver and hold the nut under the outside toilet rim with your fingers or a pair of pliers. Do not over tighten or might crack the bowl.

Reach under the bowl of the toilet and feel for a rather large wing-nut bolt on each side of the toilet. You must hold these with your hand and tighten the screws with a screwdriver. If you don't hold these wingnuts, then the screws will keep spinning forever and never tighten. Run your hand directly below the toilet just below the screws and you will find them. VERY EASY FIX!
