Screen started to flicker when tilted, then the screen went very very dim,can only just see it. Whats causing it?

Sometimes, a headlight may start flickering due to physical damage to headlight components. - Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen

- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

First of all do the flash light test. If you can see dim picture, your monitor's Backlight Inverter board is faulty.

sounds like it might be a ground wire loose on the body or dirty battery terminals hope this helps

The problem can be caused by 1 of 2 things either your power supply is going out or the backlight bulbs are going out. The most likely cause is the power supply. If you are willing to do a little soldering you should be able to do the repair. If you go to our web site at: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm We have a section on monitor repair. You could have a defective screen, either a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp - follow this to determine the fault.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

• Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
• Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
• Picture flickering with dim display.
• Picture flickering on and off.

All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Time for a new flat screen monitor...The power supply is on it's last legs.

If I understand you correctly from start up the screen is dim but does brighten up after time? But now after start up you are getting a flicker how ever a restart solves this.

On the dimming issue. Check your energy saving settings and brightness key is working OK.

The flickering is a bit of a concern.

Just a couple of questions.
Are there any dead spots on the screen? Areas where there are no pixels.
When you tilt the screen forward and backward, does this effect the brightness or flickering?

This is both a common and fairly easy repair in this unit. Remove the back, but not all of the back needs to be removed to access the power supply area and locate the power supply board. You might find that all three E919,E920,E921 of the 35v/680uf caps in the upper left of the PS board are bowed and/or vented. Replace all three of them even if they test good...
Next, esr the remaining caps. Last one we did here in the shop there were 16 total that we replaced, many were orange in color but I don't have any notes on their value. The orange color of the cap is a lesser temp range we used 105 degree or better as replacements. Some we used a higher rated cap (higher voltage) same uf rating. Gave it a greater reliability.
