I receive only picture flashes without sound when I connect the receiver HDMI input to COMCAST and to AppleTV. Both works well when I connect directly them to TV using HDMI also. Also I have PS3 connected to the receiver and it works well. I have: HP TV MDd5880n ONKYO TX-SR705 COMCAST MOTOROLA DCT6416 III APPLE TV SONY PS3 DVD AIWA XD-DV480

    Hi

    Thanks for your answer.

    Here my answers:

    1. I will assume that when you connect HDMI output from COMCAST to Onkyo and then video pass-through HDMI from Onkyo to Sony TV then you are getting proper video on TV and sound from Onkyo. Is that correct?

That is not correct, I do not get video nor sound. Also My tv is HP MD5880n.

    2. I will assume when you connect the PS3 HDMI output to Onkyo with video pass-through HDMI from Onkyo to TV, then you are also getting proper sound and video.

    Correct.

    3. I will assume when you connect the Apple TV HDMI output to TV HDMI input then you are getting proper sound and video from TV.

I am not connecting in this way. I want all device connected through the onkyo, speciffically the APPLETv connected HDMI

    4. I will assume that when you connect HDMI output from COMCAST to Onkyo HDMI input and also the Apple TV HDMI output to Onkyo and then video pass-through HDMI from Onkyo to Sony TV you are getting no sound from Onkyo and only flashes of video on Apple TV. I am assuming you are using HDMI input 1 and input 2 to connect the COMCAST and Apple TV? Is that correct?

I have the same problem, connecting only one device ( APPLE Tv or COMCAST) or connecting both devices, using any combinations of HDMI input 1 or 2.

Are you aware that AppleTV does not support HD TV mode? No, i am not sure what it means.

Please confirm if situation 4 is the problem you are having. Also is your Onkyo SR605 or SR705? SR705

Sorry even though you have provided a lot of detail about the components you have connected to the Onkyo receiver, I am very unclear about the configuration that is not working properly.

1. I will assume that when you connect HDMI output from COMCAST to Onkyo and then video pass-through HDMI from Onkyo to Sony TV then you are getting proper video on TV and sound from Onkyo. Is that correct?

2. I will assume when you connect the PS3 HDMI output to Onkyo with video pass-through HDMI from Onkyo to TV, then you are also getting proper sound and video.

3. I will assume when you connect the Apple TV HDMI output to TV HDMI input then you are getting proper sound and video from TV.

Are you aware that AppleTV does not support HD TV mode?

Will be happy to help you sort this out when you provide the clarification above.

    Thanks for the update.

Sorry about miscalling the TV as sony Tv.

In light of the clarification you have provided (and thanks for your patience), it is obvious that the Sony PS HDMI output is distinctly compatible to what the Onkyo wants.

So something is not OK with the settings when it comes to Comcast and Apple TV outputs.

Apple TV output is only 780 x 480 or therabouts which is not HD format. But that should not affect the sound not coming from the Onkyo. I do not have access at this stage to the Onkyo 705 settings - I will look into this in about 7 hours from now as I am currently mobile. In the meantime if you have time you can play around with the Digital audio format settings that is available in the Onkyo 705 audio settings and see if there is any breakthrough.

Regarding the Comcast - if you get Apple TV working first we can tackle it next. You do have Comcast III which is the true HD version so once again it could be the audio setting on the Onkyo.

Will contact again in 7 hours.

You should have your signal in to your Comcast, then HDMI out to Sat in on your receiver. I haven't looked but I'm guessing you have multiple HDMI in on your receiver, but remember, you only have one HDMI out from receiver which would go to tv. What happens if you hook HDMI directly friom Comcast out to HDTV in.If you still have a delay there must be some sort of adjustment on your tv. When you plug into tv, Is it a default screen you can't change or, can you check say video 1, etc.? How many HDMI inputs do you have on your tv? Let me know through "add a comment"

There are generally three HDMI slots at the back panel of an HD TV. Make sure you have connected the PS3 and the Apple TV in two separate slots. Sound will work because you must have hooked it up in Audio IN at the back or if you have connected the red and white audio cables in the front panel , the audio will work only on the camera setting on your TV

You must connect from the Bluray both HDMI and SPDIF to the receiver, and turn TV volume down. TV does not send the sound
from HDMI inputs out digitally, only sound from TV channels.

How do I convert from HDMI-in to Component-Out? Basically, I'd like to have my cable box (Comcast DVR) coming into the receiver using HDMI but would like to output to my TV using Component instead of HDMI....

looking at the manual here that should work for Video http://www.onkyousa.com/download/own_manuals.cfm?cat=Receiver
it looks like on the receiver you would have the DVR connected via HDMI cable to the receiver On the receiver you would select this HDMI as the input. That should automatically allow that signal to be presented to the component out on the receiver you connect the cables from component out to the TV and switch the TV to select the component input -depending on the TV model this may be labeled AV1,2,3,4, etc No sound will be transferred to the TV as component is Image ONLY whats the make and model of the TV

RX-V465 output HDMI 1 will work but HDMI 2-4 won't, also when I hook up Wii via rca to receiver only get sound no picture.

This receiver has only one HDMI output, but 4 HDMI inputs. If some inputs don't work, try connecting the equipment (DVD for example) to HDMI input which works with other equipment....
For the RCA (composite) video input - it won't work, because this receiver don't have any video processing circuit.
So HDMI input video goes to HDMI outout connector.
Composite (RCA) video input goes to Composite outout and no other video output.
S-video input goes only to s-video output.

Can I use AppleTV as one of the inputs/sources? AppleTV needs RGB + the L/R audio channels.

Since AppleTV does not have a composite output, you'd have to either buy a converter (which is pretty expensive), or use a software modification (the latter probably voiding your warranty and/or violating your AppleTV's EULA).
(There's also a 'trick' that might work, but you need to buy/borrow a HDMI-DVI adapter somwhere first to complete the procedure.)
Hope this helped,

Intermittant Audio with Yamaha RX-V465 only from cable box

I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't.
You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best
